7 Compelling Reasons You Should Keep the Day of Trumpets

Most Christians have never heard a sermon about the Day of Trumpets (Yom Teruah).

Some assume it’s an outdated Jewish tradition, long nailed to the cross. But Scripture tells a different story.

This Holy Day is a thunderclap in God’s calendar—a yearly alarm that shakes us awake to His plan of salvation and the soon-coming Kingdom of God.

Here are seven compelling reasons you should keep it.

1. God Commands It—And His Commands Still Matter

Leviticus 23 doesn’t call these “Jewish feasts.” It calls them the Feasts of the LORD:

“In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation” (Leviticus 23:24 NKJV).

This isn’t human tradition. It’s a divine appointment. If we claim to follow the God of the Bible, we can’t ignore the days He tells us to observe.

Keeping the Day of Trumpets is an act of obedience and love—the natural response of people who honor their King.

2. It Reveals God’s Master Plan of Salvation

Every festival in Leviticus 23 is a step in God’s blueprint for saving humanity.

The Day of Trumpets kicks off the final, climactic season. It announces the closing of man’s age and the opening of God’s direct rule.

If you want to understand where history is headed, you can’t skip the very day God designed to explain it.

3. It’s God’s Annual Wake-Up Call

The Day of Trumpets isn’t about guessing dates—it’s about heeding the alarm. In Scripture, trumpets were blown to summon the people, warn of danger, or announce a king’s arrival. Each blast demanded attention and action.

This Holy Day serves the same purpose today. It pierces our spiritual sleep, reminding us that the end of this age is approaching and that we must stay alert, repent, and draw closer to God before the great trumpet of Christ’s return sounds.

It’s God’s way of saying, “Wake up before it’s too late.”

4. It Proclaims the Return of Jesus Christ

The Day of Trumpets pictures the most electrifying event in all prophecy:

“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever” (Revelation 11:15 NKJV).

This is the day the King returns. Seven trumpets in the book of Revelation announce escalating world events, and the final trumpet signals Christ’s arrival to establish God’s Kingdom on earth.

Keeping this day keeps the hope of His return blazing in your heart.

5. It Announces the Resurrection of the Dead

Paul wrote:

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet… the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52 NKJV).

The Day of Trumpets points to that very blast—the awakening of those who died in Christ and the transformation of the living into immortal glory.

This isn’t a symbolic story. It’s your future if you belong to Him.

6. It Demands Personal Readiness

Trumpets were used in ancient Israel to warn of war, call assemblies, and signal movement.
This feast does the same spiritually. It’s God’s annual alarm telling you to examine your life, repent of sin, and align your heart with His standards.

Knowledge isn’t enough. Readiness is the goal.

7. It Offers Unshakable Hope and Joy

Though it warns of judgment, the Day of Trumpets is ultimately a celebration. It shouts that evil will end, death will be defeated, and Jesus will reign in righteousness.

For those who follow Him, this is not a day of fear but of victory and rejoicing—a foretaste of the peace and justice to come.

Answer the Call

The Day of Trumpets isn’t a dusty relic. It’s a living command, a prophetic marker, and a lifeline of hope.

God set the date.

He revealed its meaning.

He invites you to keep it.

This year, don’t just read about it.

Observe it. Celebrate it. Prepare for it.

Because when the last trumpet sounds, the world will never be the same—and neither will you.
