How to Make America Great Again: The Missing Piece

“Make America Great Again.”

This simple slogan has become a cultural phenomenon, synonymous with bold ambitions and a deep yearning for national renewal.

First championed by Ronald Reagan, it found new life and immense popularity under Donald Trump, propelling him to the presidency twice.

Now, with his second term underway, the phrase still resonates. It symbolizes the hope of reclaiming a lost sense of greatness.

But let me ask you: What does it truly mean to make America great again?

Is it about economic policies, military strength, or national security? Yes, these are important.

Yet, something deeper, more profound, is missing—a vital element without which all efforts will fall short.

That missing piece is religious reform.

America’s Original Greatness

To understand what will make America great again, we must reflect on why America was great to begin with.

French historian Alexis de Tocqueville, in his classic Democracy in America, recognized this greatness during his visit in the 1830s. He wrote:

“Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power… The safeguard of morality is religion, and morality is the best security of law as well as the surest pledge of freedom.”

De Tocqueville’s words are striking, aren’t they? America’s greatness wasn’t rooted in her wealth or military power but in her faith, morality, and the churches that boldly preached righteousness.

Back then, religion was more than a Sunday ritual; it was the beating heart of the nation, shaping its culture, laws, and values.

Today, America faces a moral and spiritual crisis.

Our churches are not “aflame with righteousness” but often watered down, complacent, or divided.

Could this be why our national fabric feels frayed, why division, corruption, and fear dominate?

The Heart of the Problem

America’s challenges are not just political; they are spiritual.

The Bible warns us of what happens to nations that turn away from God. In Deuteronomy 8:10-14, Moses cautioned Israel:

“When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you. Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God… lest—when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God… you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’”

Sound familiar?

Like ancient Israel, America has become proud, relying on her own strength while pushing God to the sidelines.

We’ve traded prayer in schools for secular ideologies, exchanged biblical morality for moral relativism, and silenced God’s Word in public discourse.

And the result?

A nation plagued by rising crime, broken families, addiction, and a crisis of identity. As Proverbs 14:34 reminds us:

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

The Missing Piece: Religious Reform

If America is to be great again, the solution is clear: We must return to God.

This isn’t just about individuals renewing their faith—it’s about a national revival. Political and economic reforms can only do so much.

Without spiritual renewal, they are like treating symptoms without addressing the disease.

Here’s what this return to God could look like:

  1. Churches on Fire Again
America needs pulpits that boldly preach God’s truth without fear or compromise. Churches must stop conforming to cultural trends and start transforming lives with the power of the Gospel.
  2. Families Anchored in Faith
Strong nations are built on strong families, and strong families are built on God’s Word. Parents must take the lead in teaching their children biblical values, instilling in them a sense of purpose and hope.
  3. National Repentance
America must acknowledge its sins—past and present—and humbly turn back to God. As 2 Chronicles 7:14 promises:“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
  4. Obedience to God’s Commands
True greatness comes from following God’s design for life. As Moses told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 4:6-8:“Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people… For what great nation is there that has God so near to it?”

A Call to Action

Making America great again starts with you and me.

Imagine what would happen if every Christian in America decided to take their faith seriously, to live out God’s commandments with conviction and love.

Imagine if we became salt and light in our communities, shining brightly in a world desperate for hope.

We cannot wait for politicians to fix what only God can heal. It’s time to pray fervently, live righteously, and speak boldly.

It’s time to call America back to her roots—back to the God who made her great in the first place.

The Vision of True Greatness

Ultimately, true greatness will not come from any earthly government but from the Kingdom of God.

Revelation 22:2 describes this coming reality:

“In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life… And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”

This is the hope we cling to: a future where Christ reigns, and righteousness, peace, and joy abound. Until then, let us work tirelessly to prepare the way, to make America not just great again but godly again.

Let’s start today.

So, what will you do?

Will you join this movement of spiritual renewal?

Will you take the first step by seeking God in your own life?

Because in the end, the greatness of a nation begins with the heart of its people.
