Why God Hates Christmas

Let’s talk about Christmas for a moment.

Not the warm, fuzzy holiday filled with twinkling lights and jolly music.

But the roots.

The origins.

And why, according to Scripture, God has a problem with it.

Now, this might sting a little, but stay with me.

It’s not about ruining the season or robbing anyone of joy. It’s about worship.

True worship.

The kind God desires.

In Deuteronomy 12:30-31 (NKJV), God gives a clear warning to His people:

“Take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’ You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods.”

Did you catch that?

God doesn’t want us borrowing pagan customs to worship Him.

He calls it an abomination.

That word is heavy—it means something abhorrent, detestable, even repugnant.

Imagine offering God something that stinks to high heaven.

And yet, Christmas, as celebrated today, has its roots firmly planted in paganism.

The tree? Pagan.

The wreaths? Pagan.

Even the December 25th date ties back to sun god worship.

These weren’t traditions created to honor Yahweh; they were designed for pagan gods and rituals.

But somewhere along the way, Christians took those same customs and “rebranded” them for Jesus.

Sounds harmless, right?

A recycled gift, if you will.

Except, here’s the thing: God doesn’t accept worship on our terms.

Worship Is About What God Wants

Here’s the heart of it: worship isn’t about what makes us feel good or what seems “fun” or “harmless.” Worship is about what God wants.

Look at Cain and Abel in Genesis 4.

Both brought offerings to God, but only Abel’s was accepted.

Why?

Because Abel followed God’s instruction.

Cain did his own thing.

And God rejected it.

The same principle applies to Christmas.

It doesn’t matter how much we mean well.

If the way we’re worshipping God stems from something He hates, He will not accept it.

The Pagan Connection

Think about it: would you ever offer your spouse a gift they despise?

Imagine giving them a perfume they’re allergic to and saying, “But it smells good to me!”

That’s what Christmas is—a gift God never asked for, rooted in practices He calls detestable.

The Call to True Worship

Jesus said it plainly in John 4:23-24 (NKJV):

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Spirit and truth. Not tradition and nostalgia.

So, what now?

Am I saying you should cancel Christmas?

Well, if you ask God and read His Word, the answer should be obvious now.

Let’s stop pretending He’s honored by something He’s already called an abomination.

Let’s return to the pure, untainted worship He desires.

After all, shouldn’t our love for Him compel us to worship Him His way?

Think about it, friend. God deserves better.
