Would Jesus Vote for Trump or Harris? (A Biblical Perspective on Politics)

As the 2024 election looms large, the question many Christians might ask is: Who would Jesus vote for?

Would He cast His ballot for Kamala Harris, the current Vice President seeking the presidency, or former President Donald Trump, who is vying for another term? Or, would Jesus even vote at all?

In a nation so deeply divided along political lines, this question feels both timely and pressing.

After all, Jesus is the ultimate example for Christians, so understanding His perspective could help guide how believers approach politics in today’s turbulent climate.

Today, let me share with you 5 points that you need to understand to better understand Christ’s stance on politics.

1. Would Jesus Take Sides in Politics?

If we look at the life of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels, there’s something strikingly absent: Jesus didn’t get involved in the politics of His day.

He didn’t align Himself with the Pharisees, the Sadducees, the Zealots, or any other political group.

These factions were all vying for power, much like today’s political parties, yet Jesus chose not to endorse any of them.

In fact, when people tried to pull Him into political debates, such as when He was asked about paying taxes to Caesar (Matthew 22:17-21), Jesus masterfully sidestepped taking sides.

He acknowledged civil authority but pointed people to something much greater—our duty to God.

Similarly, if Jesus were walking the earth today, He wouldn’t endorse Trump, Harris, or any political figure.

Why?

Because His kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36).

Jesus’ mission was never to promote a particular political system or government.

Instead, His focus was on a much higher calling: the Kingdom of God.

2. Jesus’ Message Wasn’t About Fixing Earthly Governments

It’s easy to get caught up in the heated debates over policies and platforms, but Jesus’ message transcended the politics of His time—and ours.

The problems we see in the world today—economic instability, moral decline, corruption, and social division—are not new.

Jesus faced similar issues during His time, and He didn’t come to fix them through political means.

When He was offered the kingdoms of the world by Satan (Luke 4:5-7), Jesus turned down the offer.

He didn’t dispute Satan’s ability to make such a proposal, which is a sobering reminder that earthly governments are often influenced by forces not aligned with God.

Instead of taking control, Jesus’ mission was clear: He came to save souls and proclaim the coming Kingdom of God, not to reform the Roman Empire or overthrow unjust rulers.

Today, whether we lean towards Trump’s conservative platform or Harris’ progressive policies, the reality is that neither will solve the deep-rooted spiritual problems we face.

Jesus understood this.

He knew that no earthly leader could bring about the kind of transformation the world desperately needs.

Only God’s Kingdom, which will be established when Christ returns, can offer true and lasting solutions.

3. Christians Are Ambassadors, Not Political Activists

As Christians, we’re called to be good citizens (Romans 13:1-7), but that doesn’t mean we should be consumed by political battles.

We’re not just citizens of our respective countries; we are citizens of heaven (Philippians 3:20). And that makes all the difference.

Being a Christian means representing a kingdom that’s not of this world. Like ambassadors, we live here, but our allegiance is to a higher government—God’s.

Our focus should be on spreading the good news of Jesus, not getting entangled in the politics of this age.

If Jesus were here today, He wouldn’t be campaigning for any political candidate.

Instead, He’d be proclaiming the same message He preached 2,000 years ago: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17).

His mission would be the same—to change hearts, not to win elections.

4. The Kingdom of God is the Ultimate Solution

The world is broken, and no politician, regardless of party or platform, can fully fix it.

The root of our problems is not political—it’s spiritual. Sin and its consequences are the real issues plaguing humanity, and only the return of Jesus Christ will bring about the kind of lasting peace and justice we long for.

When Jesus returns, the governments of this world will be replaced by His rule (Revelation 11:15).

At that time, all the things we debate about today—taxes, healthcare, foreign policy—will be rendered irrelevant.

Jesus will reign with perfect justice, and His government will bring true peace.

Until that day, we should follow Christ’s example by focusing on what truly matters—our relationship with God and our mission to share the gospel.

Whether you vote for Trump, Harris, or someone else, remember that your ultimate hope isn’t in this election—it’s in the Kingdom of God.

5. Should Christians Vote?

Does that mean Christians shouldn’t vote at all?

Not necessarily. Voting is a personal decision, and each believer should approach it prayerfully, asking for wisdom.

But it’s important to remember that, as Christians, our primary identity isn’t tied to a political party or candidate.

Our loyalty is to Jesus and His Kingdom.

In the end, it’s not about who wins this election, because no matter who takes office, our King is already enthroned in heaven.

So, as the election draws near, keep your eyes fixed on the bigger picture. Jesus wouldn’t vote for Trump or Harris because His mission was never to reform human governments but to bring about God’s perfect Kingdom.

And that’s where our hope lies.

Trump Vs Harris: Who will you vote?

So, would Jesus vote for Trump or Harris?

The answer is clear: He wouldn’t vote at all. Jesus’ mission transcends politics, and as His followers, we’re called to focus on the eternal—not the temporary.

While it’s okay to be engaged in the political process, let’s remember where our true allegiance lies.

Our hope isn’t in Washington, D.C.; it’s in the Kingdom of God.

Let’s live like ambassadors, representing our heavenly King in everything we do.
