If that’s the case, you need to realize this: forgiving others is not just about reuniting and reconciling with them. It is ultimately about obeying God’s command to forgive.

We read in Ephesians 4:31-32:

31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

It is about elevating your relationship with God over the broken relationships you have with others. While yes, it’s good to restore relationship with others, but sometimes, this is not always possible.

Nevertheless, it is our duty to forgive others — meaning, we release the need for revenge or retribution. This allows us to move forward in our lives.

Don’t let the shackles of past hurt, bitterness, and frustration keep you imprisoned. God has a wonderful future for you and you might not receive it simply because you’re bound to your past. I know it might be difficult, but with God’s help, grace, and mercy, you can forgive others just like God has forgiven you.
