Today’s reading: Job 37:14-18

God’s infinite wisdom

We read in Job 37:14-18:

14 “Listen to this, O Job;
Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.

15 Do you know when God dispatches them,
And causes the light of His cloud to shine?

16 Do you know how the clouds are balanced,
Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge?

17 Why are your garments hot,
When He quiets the earth by the south wind?

18 With Him, have you spread out the skies,
Strong as a cast metal mirror?

Sometimes, we forget how awesome, great, and powerful Yahweh is. In our despair and times of trouble, we can be too focused on our suffering that we lose sight of God’s marvelous power.

Like Job, he was focused on defending himself, thinking about why he was suffering and why he shouldn’t suffer.

However, even the greatest and brightest minds of human beings are nothing compared to God’s infinite wisdom and knowledge. There are just so many things that remain a mystery to us in spite of all the unbelievable breakthroughs that we made over the past millennium.

The main point of Eliphaz’s statement here is that there are a lot of things that are just beyond our human comprehension. Because we don’t know everything, we can trust the One who knows everything.

Because we are limited in our understanding, who are we to question God’s judgment, wisdom, and decision?

Because we are physical and mortal, how can we see what God sees, understand what God understands, and know what God knows?

The ultimate solution is to simply surrender our lives to the hands of the all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God.
