Today’s reading: 1 Kings 3:12

Ask for wisdom

We read in 1 Kings 3:12:

12 Behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.

Yahweh asked Solomon what he wanted. As a response, Solomon asked for wisdom.

Of all the things that Solomon could ask for, he asked for wisdom. I wonder, what might be our response if we are in the place of Solomon.

You see, Solomon could have asked for other things such as incomprehensible wealth, peace in the land, victory in battles, and other things this world could offer.

However, he chose wisdom, which in itself is a wise choice.

With the right wisdom, you can actually gain everything else that you haven’t asked for.

Thankfully, we all can also ask for God’s wisdom.

We read in James 1:5:

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

You see, God is more than willing to give us wisdom if only we ask of Him.

Time and again, we read throughout the Bible the importance of wisdom. Life is full of choices. Without wisdom, we can easily make the wrong decisions and suffer the consequences.

If you look into your life, you know that there are a lot of difficulties you could have avoided if you had been wiser.

Sometimes, the question is not “What is the right thing to do?”

Rather, it is, “What is the wise thing to do?”

Most often than not, it’s not a question of whether it is good or evil. We are confronted with so many decisions that are not necessarily morally right or wrong.

In this case, we need wisdom to make the right decision.

Life is already difficult, but it is more difficult without the right wisdom.

Thus, we must always make it a point that we pray for God’s wisdom and guidance every day. Don’t let a day pass by without asking for wisdom to help you live through this life.
