A change of the law
We read in Hebrews 7:12:
12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.
A lot of Christians believe that the Law of God has been done away with and that it shouldn’t be followed today. They say that the sacrifice of Yahshua annulled God’s law. Yet, this is not what we see throughout the Scripture.
Paul, the more likely writer of Hebrews, tells us that Yahshua is a High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. We know that high priests should come from the tribe of Levi. Paul was explaining that the Melchizedek priesthood is greater than the Levitical priesthood.
Thus, this shows us that Christ is rightfully the best high priest that we can all have.
To fully establish Christ as our new High Priest, there should be a change in the law.
Now, notice that it didn’t say that there should be an elimination or removal of the law, but rather, it is only a CHANGE of the law.
Which specific part of the law was changed? It was the law concerning the Levitical priesthood. The change didn’t apply to all of God’s laws, particularly the moral laws of God.
We must understand that God’s laws are changed. It wasn’t rendered ineffective. It was only changed to make way for Christ’s priestly role in heaven.
We know that humans have a carnal mind. It would do its best to remove God’s law as much as possible. That’s why when pastors and religious teachers say that God’s laws are already invalid, they would readily accept this teaching without really even examining the Scriptures.
For us who know the truth, we are grateful for God revealing this understanding to us. With God’s grace and mercy, He has chosen us to learn this truth.
Therefore, let us not waste this golden opportunity to apply God’s truth in our lives.
