Today’s reading: Isaiah 5:20

Calling evil good and good evil

We read in Isaiah 5:20:

20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Isaiah lived in a time when Israel was constantly sinning and rebelling against the Most High. Israel was so evil that they came to the point of calling what is bad, good, and good, bad. Instead of rejoicing in God, these people rejoice and revel in their sinful habits.

The same is the problem in our society today. A lot of people now call something bad good and good bad. They consider what is biblically sinful as acceptable. They celebrate homosexuality and abortion while they ridicule people who value life and follow God’s pattern of relationship.

This is what happens when our society loses its way by throwing out the guiding Word of God. People are lost and they didn’t know where to go. They are confused and don’t know exactly which is good and bad anymore. They don’t know anymore, which is light and dark, sweet and bitter.

To make things worse, the truth has been offensive to people. They don’t just want to hear the truth, but also hate the truth!

While we look at society, we must also look into ourselves. Sometimes, we are also guilty of doing the same. We might also forget God’s law and let ourselves decide which is good and evil.

What we must do is always stay faithful to God’s word. Let the Most High decide what is good and what is evil. This world is morally dying, but we can always choose to follow God.

We can always choose to call good, good and evil, evil.
