Today we're going to discuss the habit of prayer
0:04
So before anything else, you want to answer the question, what is prayer
0:09
Thus in this session, we are going to answer the questions, what is prayer and what does the Bible say about prayer
0:17
Now, these are really important questions for us to answer. When you fully understand what prayer is, you're going to have a more effective means of establishing a stronger relationship with
0:29
our heavenly father. So what is prayer? Right. So this is one of the most important questions
0:37
What is prayer? Prayer is among the most powerful spiritual tools that a Christian can use
0:44
in his journey toward the kingdom of God. No person can claim that they are a Christian without
0:50
developing the habit of prayer. There is power in prayer and effective Christians know this very fact
0:58
If you want to be an effective Christian, you need to develop this habit
1:04
Prayer, in its simplest definition, is the process of communicating with God
1:11
While this definition might be simple, prayer is actually a very powerful tool that we can use to spiritually grow in our faith
1:20
As you can imagine, you can't call yourself a Christian if you don't have a prayer life
1:25
Simply put, like a fish can't survive on land, a Christian cannot survive as well without prayer
1:33
That's just how crucial it is to have a prayer life. Now, there are a lot of Bible verses that talk about prayer
1:39
In fact, the word pray is mentioned more than 300 times in the Old King James Version
1:45
while prayer is mentioned more than 100 times. So this is a very huge and important topic even in the Bible
1:53
For us to better understand what prayer is, here are four things the Bible say about prayer
2:01
Number one, prayer helps us to defeat worry and anxiety. Philippines 4, verse 6 to 7 tells us, be anxious for nothing
2:14
One of the most common emotions that affect people negatively is anxiety
2:19
It leads to various mental problems such as depression and even panic
2:23
Now, did you know that being anxious is actually taking the role of God in your life
2:30
Yes, that's right. Being anxious is worrying about the things you don't have control of
2:36
Actually, whatever that's worrying you, you can always give it to God
2:41
As long as you have done your part, God will do His. Now, can you imagine a baby worrying about his food
2:49
Of course not. The baby doesn't do that. Who worries about his food
2:53
they are the concerns of their parents In the same manner there are a lot of things we worry about but in reality we can always go to God and let him take care of our concerns Now let proceed reading
3:08
Philippians 4 verse 6 to 7, but in everything by prayer and supplication. Now what's the difference
3:14
between prayer and supplication? Well, prayer is a broader term that refers to our communication
3:20
God. And supplication refers specifically for the things we want God to do for us. Now it says
3:27
with Thanksgiving. We need to approach God with Thanksgiving. And it says let your requests be made
3:35
known to God. Many of us don't receive what we want or what we desire because we don't ask
3:44
So the Apostle Paul is telling us let your requests be known to God. And when you do this
3:50
what will happen and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts
3:57
and minds through Christ Jesus or Yahshua. Now that's a very beautiful promise
4:04
Let's go to number two. We must pray according to God's will
4:09
We read in Matthew 6 verse 10, your kingdom come, your will be done
4:15
Not our will but your will be done on earth. as it is in heaven
4:22
It's not always easy to say your will be done. In fact, you'll really find people giving up their will and letting God take over
4:31
Of course, people can say your will be done, but they don't mean it
4:37
One might convey it with a sense of resignation and bitterness, as if acknowledging the inevitable, like, your will shall prevail and I'm powerless to alter it
4:46
though your will triumphs, I harbor this content. Now, this kind of thinking, these are the things that make people not really want God's will in their lives
4:58
On the other hand, the same phrase can be spoken with a heart, b with profound love and unwavering trust
5:06
You might say, guide me according to your will, for I believe it is the very important path
5:13
Transform me in areas where I struggle to comprehend or improve. embrace your divine plan
5:19
So you have the choice. How are you going to pray to God? You can speak the same words
5:25
but if your heart is not right, then it would not be as effective at its should
5:31
Now, number three, we need to pray without seizing. In 1st Solonians 5, 16 to 18, it says
5:40
rejoice always, pray without seizing. In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Yeshua for you
5:52
In this verse Paul urges the Thessalonians to embrace a lifestyle of continuous prayer This doesn necessarily mean that you are always in perpetual state of prayer like in every waking moment you bend your knees you just stay in your room praying
6:09
But rather, it encourages us to have a constant prayerful disposition and regularly engaging in dedicated conversations with God
6:19
Even in the middle trials in life, you can get encouragement knowing that you have a direct
6:25
line to our heavenly father. Jesus or Yeshua serves as the ultimate example
6:32
of perpetual prayer. He not only instructed disciples on prayer, just like
6:38
in Matthew 6, verse 5 to 13, but demonstrated it consistently. Whether before
6:44
feeding the 5,000, blessing the children, or facing the morning and evening
6:50
Jesus exemplified a life intertwined with prayer. His prayers extended to his disciples and all future believers, resonated in the Garden of Getsimani
7:04
and even echoed from the time he was crucified. So you just can't imagine if Jesus or Yahshua is a mind of prayer, how much more should we be a mind of prayer
7:18
Now, following in Yahshua's footsteps, the Apostle Paul also have devoted his life with so much prayer
7:25
From the confines of prison, he prayed at midnight and sought God's guidance after addressing the elders in Ephesus
7:34
In various circumstances such as in Malta, for Israel, and for the churches
7:40
Paul consistently demonstrated a life marked by continuous communication with God. Number four, we can go to God anytime, anywhere
7:52
We read in Hebrews 4 verse 16. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace
7:58
that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need
8:04
Hebrews 416 encourages us to approach God's throne boldly, a privilege granted by having a high priest both omnipotent and compassionate
8:15
You know, Satan's tactic often involves discouraging us to don't, so that we don't have access to Jesus
8:21
either portraying him as an approachable or even powerless. Now notice the word boldly
8:29
In this context, boldly means constant, unrestricted, and confident access, free from the need
8:36
for elaborate words and reflecting a persistent approach. You see, the throne we approach is one of grace, where mercy, which means withholding deserved
8:47
judgment, and grace bestowing and deserved favor, harmoniously meet and thanks to Yahshua sacrifice for us that is made possible Can you just imagine that the throne of God is filled with mercy and grace both of which we greatly needed as sinners What a comforting thought to ponder upon In times of need believers find comfort
9:14
as they approach this throne, receiving both help and grace. God who comprehends our struggles
9:21
invites us to present our requests with assurance. You see, the essence of Christian faith
9:27
Lies not in a distant or indifferent deity, but in Yahshua, who intimately understands our human struggles
9:37
And he doesn't just understand them. He has already overcome them firsthand
9:43
Christ's unique position as the one who endured suffering, death and temptation, without even succumbing to sin
9:51
reinforces the confidence with which believers can approach God in prayer. Now, Yahshua, understanding our weaknesses intimately, serves as both high priest and sin payment substitute
10:07
Hence, the invitation to build the approach God's throne is rooted in the assurance that Yahshua comprehends and he empathizes with our struggles, making our prayer to be more meaningful and confident interaction
10:24
Now, what's amazing is that we can always go to God. There's no need to set an appointment
10:30
There's no need to call the secretary and you want to talk to him
10:34
If you're going to talk to the president of our country, we still need to schedule things, right
10:40
We need to wait for days, weeks, and even months to get an audience
10:45
And there's even no guarantee that you'll be able to talk to the president
10:50
Yet, that's now how it works with God. We can always talk to him 24-7, whether you have appointed
10:57
you have set schedule. There's no need for that. We can talk to him when we are happy
11:04
we can talk to him when we are sad, we can talk to him when we are on the mountain top
11:09
and we can talk to him when we are in the valley. That's what prayer is
11:14
It is not powerful because of who we are, but because of who God is
11:19
Thus, don't underestimate the power of prayer in your life. Take advantage of it and see how your life will transform
11:27
prayer is more than just letting the words come out of your mouth
11:33
It has enormous power to help us get closer to God. Prayer is our direct line to our Heavenly Father, who is always ready to listen to us
