Hello there everyone. We are now in part five of our Bible study series, The Seven Qualities of Effective Prayer
0:08
Today, we are going to talk about unselfish prayer, which is our fifth quality
0:13
As human beings, it is natural for us to think about ourselves
0:19
All throughout the day, how many times do you think about yourself? There's no denying that we are naturally inclined to think about our plans and our goals
0:29
and our ambitions in life. We think about what we will eat
0:34
how we can support ourselves, how we can make ourselves healthy, and how we can improve ourselves
0:41
It's all about us. That's why in prayer, it is so easy to fall into the trap
0:47
of thinking that prayer is all about us. Of course, we don't consciously admit that
0:53
but more often than not, what we pray for is all about for our own good
0:58
Now, we are called to a higher standard by God. That's why we don't just do what is natural or easy
1:06
In prayer, we are also trained to think about others. Prayers not just about you
1:13
It should also be about God and other people Your prayer should not simply contain what you want in your life You should also pray for others In the Bible we can see a lot of examples where people pray for each other
1:28
and not just simply for themselves. For example, we have seen how the Canaanite woman approached Yahshua
1:36
not for herself, but for her daughter. The Apostle Pope continually prays for the brethren
1:42
Even Christ prayed for His own people. We read the instruction for praying for one another in James 516
1:50
We read, confess your transpasses to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed
1:59
Did you see that we are commanded to pray for one another? How often do you do that
2:05
How often do you pray for others? Well, I hope more often
2:10
In Matthew 544, we are even commanded, not just to pray for our loved ones and friends
2:14
not just for people who we like, but rather we are commanded to pray for our enemies
2:22
We read Matthew 544, but I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you
2:30
and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. Now not many people notice this but the Lord Prayer which is more appropriately called the modal prayer encourages us to pray for one another Notice Matthew 6 verse 9 to 13
2:50
Our Father in heaven? It didn't say my Father. Hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
3:00
Give us this day our daily bread. Again, it didn't say give me or give me my day
3:07
bread. And then, and forgive us, not forgive me, forgive us our deaths as we forgive our debtors
3:15
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the
3:23
power and glory forever. Amen. Now bodil prayer promotes communal prayer, meaning praying with each other
3:30
and praying for each other. It tells us that prayer should not be selfish and should not be just about
3:37
ourselves but also about others. Now, when you pray for one another, do you know what happens
3:45
It makes you to think more about others than yourself. It makes you to be more selfless rather than selfish
3:54
Aside from that praying for one another is a great way for us to show our love and kindness to everyone It forces us to go our way to reach out to others and ask them how they are doing and building a closer relationship not just to God but also to others
4:14
So that's the fifth quality of effective prayers. I hope that this helped you and I hope that you
4:20
would also take note of our Teach Us to Pray course. It's a course that will help you learn more
4:26
about prayer straight from the Bible. I have added the link in the description box, so please
4:32
check it out. I'm sure you're going to love this course as it will tell you more about prayer
4:38
and it will teach you how to pray and why you should pray, and it will tell you the things that
4:45
you should pray specifically. So please do check it out, and I have added the link in the description
4:50
