Brethren, did you know that the Bible calls the unleavened bread a very unusual name
0:07
And all of my life, I thought that this bread is just called, it's simply just called
0:12
an unleavened bread. And yet when I was trying to find a topic for this message, I was looking, I was reading
0:19
at the, at Exodus and the Old Testament, and how it was kept during that time
0:27
And there's this one particular, uh, verse that really stuck to me. And I don't know about you, but this is the first time I noticed
0:35
this name of the 11th bread. So let's go there, brethren. It's found in Guteronomy 16
0:43
Jeterronomy 16. All right. I hope that you are already there. Gitorraumme 16. It says
0:50
verse 1, observe the month of Abib. Now did you just notice that, brother? It didn't say just
0:59
to observe the 14th day of Abib, but it says, Observe the month of Abib, the month
1:07
So you can just see that the Passover is so serious that you have 14 days to prepare for it
1:17
So it says, observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to Yahweh your God
1:22
for in the month of Abib, Yahweh your God brought you out of Egypt by night
1:27
therefore you shall sacrifice the passover to Yahweh your god from the flock and the herd in the place where Yahweh chooses to put his name
1:36
you shall eat no unleavened bread with it seven days you shall eat and leavened bread now this is what
1:46
I want us to focus on this term which is the other name for an leavened bread it says here in verse 3 you shall eat
1:57
unleavened bread with it, that is the bread of affliction. For you came out of the land of Egypt in haste that you may remember the day in which you came
2:08
out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life
2:14
Bread of affliction? Have you ever thought of the unleavened bread as the bread of affliction
2:22
Now when I read this, I immediately asked myself, why would the Bible call the 11th bread the bread of affliction
2:31
Why would God call this bread? A bread of affliction, of hardship, of tribulation
2:37
And why would God want us to eat the bread of affliction
2:44
Now, this is actually, this is very rich and meaning when I tried to study about this topic
2:51
Actually, originally I have three points for this, but just for now I'll just give you one point of why or what is the most important lesson we can learn
3:02
from the 11th bread being called the bread of affliction now notice why did the Bible call it
3:11
bread of affliction now the reason given here is that for you came out of the land of
3:18
Egypt in haste in haste so on that day on that night when they
3:24
left Egypt they were in a hurry. So what's the big deal? What's so difficult about living Egypt in such a hurry
3:33
Now why So I just want you to imagine first Imagine yourself to be in the shoes of the Israelites All your life you been in Egypt all your possessions are there your family has lived has been born and lived and died in that place
3:50
All your possessions are there. You simply was just, you've already been established yourself in Egypt
3:57
And all of a sudden, you would have to live this place
4:03
And not just, it didn't say that, oh, it didn't say that in just two weeks, in one year you will live
4:09
No, but you have to wait, you have to leave Egypt on that night
4:16
You have to, you don't have to wait. You have to do it as soon as possible
4:21
And because of that, brethren, they were so, they were in a hurry so much that they don't have time to wait for the leavened bread to rice
4:31
That's why they, instead of waiting for the bread to baking it, waiting it to rice because of the leavening agent
4:39
they have to take the bread and leavened. No need to wait because you have to take it
4:45
you have to leave the place in hurry immediately. So you can just imagine the affliction
4:53
of leaving Egypt. That's why brethren is telling us that the unleavened bread
5:01
is also the bread of affliction because it is difficult for them
5:08
to leave that place in a hurry. Now here's something that we need to realize
5:14
Egypt pictures a type of sin. And for the Israelites to come out of Egypt
5:22
it also pictures for us Christians today that we are also coming out of our sin
5:30
Think about this for a second. When we eat the bread of affliction
5:35
it also reminds us that it is difficult for us to leave sin behind
5:46
Have you ever thought about that, brethren? It's that easy. Maybe some sins are easy to overcome
5:51
but there are certain scenes in our lives that we have been very comfortable
5:56
we don't see the need to change, it is something that we don't really think of changing
6:04
But here's the thing. sin brings pain and also overcoming sin brings pain just
6:15
just imagine for a second think about the different scenes that we commit in our lives
6:22
now we are different we we sin differently we are weak about
6:27
we are weak in certain things we are strong about these things but some of us
6:31
might be addicted to mobile games Some of us might be addicted to pornography
6:39
Some of us might be addicted to gossiping. Some of us might be filled with pride
6:46
We are greedy. We are last fool. We are envious. Now think about changing those things in your life
6:54
It's not easy, especially when you are addicted. Let me just give you an example
7:00
Maybe you are addicted to pornography. You would tell yourself, oh, this would be the last time I will watch this next week, I will not do it again
7:10
Oh, this would be the, oh, just this one more time, then I would quit
7:15
No more. And yet, you find yourself watching pornography over and over and over again
7:22
That is why brethren it not easy to overcome sin It needs tremendous effort And in the process it feels painful That why every time we eat
7:38
of the unleavened bread it reminds us that this is the bread of affliction. That overcoming sin
7:46
which is what the 11th bread, days of 11 bread pictures is that it takes a lot of effort. It's not easy
7:54
And you could just imagine that even in our modern times, that avoiding unleavened bread also brings its comfort and some level of pain
8:07
You see, before Passover, you can eat cake, you can eat that yummy, that soft and puffy bread
8:18
But when the days of unleavened bread comes, or when the days of unleavened bread
8:23
arrived, then we are all of a sudden, we cannot eat those things anymore
8:30
I remember when we try to try to buy food during the days of 11 bread, there's just so many
8:39
things that we cannot buy anymore. All of our options just minimized
8:46
You cannot buy crackers, the usual things that you buy, the bread, and you have to be very
8:52
careful you have to read the labels so in a way we are giving we are we are avoiding these things
9:02
in exchange what do we get the bread of affliction that flat that bland tasteless unleavened bread
9:11
now i know that sometimes we just want to make it more palatable so we we do some things to
9:17
make the 11 bread more delicious but i think that defeats the purpose
9:22
The very reason we are eating the bread of affliction, which is an 11th bread, is for us to be reminded of the importance of overcoming sin
9:33
That yet it is difficult, but the reward is there. So there's just so many things that this represents the bread of affliction
9:48
And what else? when it comes to when it comes to the bread of affliction
9:53
we have to endure the thought of you might have noticed this but during the days
10:03
of an 11th bread those are the days when we usually crave for
10:09
11 bread I don't know why but those times I remember when
10:15
during the during the UB, those are the times when, oh, I want to eat Pandisan, I want to eat cake, I want to eat this one, this one
10:26
So it really is a bread of affliction. And what's for? You have to be very careful what you're eating
10:35
I remember when in the past, I almost ate the tender, juicy fried chicken from this popular food chain in our country
10:45
and I just realized it has breadcrumbs. And also sometimes I would try to order and I said
10:54
can I have one young burger? And I just realized that, oh, the hamburger has bread
11:03
So you really have to be very careful. That's why brother, it's called the bread of affliction
11:09
It's not something that it's so easy. We have to do our best It a struggle And yet brethren it provides it gives us tremendous blessings and rewards
11:22
Now, there are two options here, brethren. Okay? There are two options
11:28
You see, these two options would give you pain. One option is that you will choose the pain of sin
11:38
or you will choose the pain of overcoming. Now, both of these are going to cause some pain, some discomfort in your life
11:51
And yet, they are different in the reward. The pain of sin would lead to death
11:59
And the pain of discipline, of changing yourself, leads to eternal life
12:05
Now, choose your pain. Which pain would you like to go through
12:12
Now, I don't know about you, brethren, but I would surely choose the pain of overcoming
12:17
Because this is the type of overcoming that comes with a reward
12:23
Notice this, brethren. Let's go here in James 1, verse 12, which is our final scripture
12:30
James 1 verse 12, it says, Blessed is the man who endures temptation
12:37
Who endure temptation? You could just imagine, brethren, that our life is actually about enduring
12:46
We are not called to a life of comfort. When you suffer, brethren, you don't have to ask, oh, this my life is so hard
12:53
Why is it so hard? Oh, I wish I could be rich
12:57
I could afford this. I could have this. Well, brethren, the Bible tells us that we have to endure
13:05
and we have to endure temptation. That is what we are called for
13:10
And when we do that, brethren, when we endure the pain, when we endure eating, the affliction, the bread of affliction
13:23
what will happen, brethren? It says here, blessed is a man who endures temptation
13:29
For when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him
13:41
Do you want to have the crown of life, brethren? If yes, then choose the bread of affliction
13:48
Because this is the only way, this is the only way for us to be part of God's kingdom
13:55
God has already made the ultimate sacrifice through his son. And when we take, when we eat that unleavened bread, that bread of affliction, we are partaking of Yeshua's sacrifice as well
14:07
We are expressing our desire to change. So, brethren, choose your pain
14:17
Are you going to stay in your sin which brings pain or are you going to change to enjoy the blessings God is promised to us both now and in the life to come
14:28
The choice is yours, brethren. But as we eat of the bread of affliction during these days of 11 bread
14:36
may we learn to make the right choice. Hello, friends, I need your help
