Five Bible verses that disprove immortal soul teaching
0:04
A lot of Christians today believe that the soul is immortal. After you die, the soul leaves the body and roams around on earth
0:11
Some souls will even visit their loved ones while others torment the living. However, is this belief biblically accurate
0:19
Is the soul really immortal? That's what we are going to learn today
0:23
In this video, let me share with you five unexpected Bible verses that prove the immortal soul teaching is false
0:29
Verse number one, Genesis 2.7. We read, And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life
0:40
And man became a living soul. The English word soul came from the Hebrew word nefesh
0:46
Strong's dictionary clearly defines this word as a breathing creature. The same dictionary tells us that nefesh can be used to refer to humans and animals
0:55
Notice in Genesis 1.21. We read, great whales and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly
1:04
after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind. The word creature here is derived
1:11
from the word nefesh. Nephesh is also applied to birds, as you can read in verse 30, land, animals
1:17
reptiles, insects, and creeping creatures in verse 24. As you can see, the term soul can be used
1:23
both for humans, animals, and any other living creatures. Time and again, the Bible uses the term
1:29
the living soul or living creature. Now think about this. If there's a living soul, then there must be
1:35
a dead soul. Verse number two, Genesis 2.17. We read, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
1:44
thou shalt not eat of it For in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die God said that Adam and Eve shall surely die when they eat the forbidden fruit We know that Adam and Eve were both referred to as living souls as we can read in Genesis 2 or 7
2:00
If the soul is immortal, then obviously God made a mistake with what he said
2:04
We have a problem here then. Of course, there is no problem at all for those who believe that
2:10
the soul is not immortal and can actually die. Verse number three, Ezekiel 18, verses 4 and 20
2:16
we read, Behold, all souls are mine as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine
2:24
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The soul that sinneth it shall die
2:32
The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father. Neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son
2:37
The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him
2:43
It can't get clearer than that. These verses plainly tell us that the soul. soul shall die. The Bible shows us that sin leads to death as we read in Romans 6, verse 23
2:53
Everyone who sinned will die. The Hebrew word translated as soul from these verses is nefesh
3:01
If you look into Leviticus 22 verse 4, Numbers 5 verse 2, 6 verse 11, and 9 verses 6 to 10
3:06
you will see that the term nefesh is even used to refer to dead bodies
3:11
Verse number 4, Ecclesiastes 9 verse 5. We read, For the living know that they shall die
3:18
but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward for the memory of them is forgotten
3:25
Part of the teaching of the immortal soul is that humans have a separate spirit entity
3:29
that exists independently from their physical body. When a person dies, his soul or that spirit
3:35
will continue to exist and be conscious. However we can see from Ecclesiastes 9 verse 5 that the dead does not know anything They are completely unconscious not knowing what is happening in the world of the living In fact the Bible consistently describes that the state of death is like sleeping as we read in the following passages
3:57
Just like in death, when you are asleep, you are not aware of your surroundings
4:02
Finally, verse number five, Matthew 10, verse 28. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul
4:09
but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell
4:15
Most proponents of the immortal soul teaching use this verse to support their belief
4:21
However, if you look closely, the verse is actually telling us that the soul can be destroyed
4:27
So what does Christ mean when he mentioned Matthew 10, 28? Looking at the Greek words used here can shed great light on Christ's real message
4:35
Jesus, whose real name is Yahshua, was warning his listeners that there was
4:39
will come a judgment of God. He was teaching them that we need not fear those people who can only kill the body
4:46
but not the soul. The physical human body is derived from the Greek word Soma
4:52
The soul here is derived from the Greek word Suki, which denotes the person's physical being with its consciousness
4:59
It is only God whom we must fear with reverence because he alone can destroy both Soma and Suki
5:05
Body and Soul. Matthew 10, verse 28, tells us that, men can only destroy the body because God can raise anyone to conscious life again, just like
5:15
what Christ did to Lazarus. God will also resurrect people during the second coming of Jesus
5:21
When a person dies, he is not ultimately gone forever because God has the power to raise that
5:26
person again. Jesus is telling us that we need to fear God because he also has the power to remove
5:32
any possibility for a person to be resurrected When God destroys a person in hell that person will ultimately be forgotten with no chance of any later resurrection From these verses
5:45
we can prove that the teaching of the immortal soul is utterly false. The idea of the soul possessing immortality
5:51
came from pagan beliefs and superstitious views. The Greek philosophers are known to be
5:55
the number one proponents of the immortal soul doctrine, which sadly modern Christianity adopted
6:01
So what does this mean? Does it really matter whether we accept this false teaching or not
6:07
Of course, it matters. We need to stand on the ground of truth
6:12
Jesus claimed that if we are to worship God, we must do it in truth, John 4.24
6:18
When we accept the immortal soul teaching, we are rejecting God's truth
6:22
We can't believe in God and wrong pagan beliefs at the same time. It is either you call God a liar or you worship him as the God of truth and of all wisdom
6:31
So let us not be deceived by the teaching of the Immortality. soul. The Bible clearly tells us that such teaching is false, unbiblical, and deceitful. It obscures God's
6:41
true plan of salvation for all mankind. It is time that we start believing what the Bible says
6:47
and only then we can really see and grasp the real meaning of life. I hope that helps. If you
