Today, I want to talk about eating fat
0:03
Is fat good or bad for our health? Down the century, we have heard different answers from so-called experts
0:10
Some claim that all fats are bad and we should have a low-fat diet to attain optimum health
0:16
Others argue that fats are healthy and they are a rich source of energy
0:20
In searching for the right answer, who should we follow? Are we left in just choosing who we should believe and hope for the best
0:28
Thankfully, we can go to the master creator who designed our human body
0:33
If there's one being who can tell us whether fat is good for us or not, it should be Yahweh
0:39
the supreme God of the universe. We are not left in the dark when it comes to finding the truth about this matter
0:46
We can always turn to God's inspired word and read the Bible to know the answer
0:51
So what does the Bible say about eating fat? Does God care enough about our health and leave us a diet
0:58
guideline? In this video, let me share with you a quick, comprehensive, and easy-to-understand
1:04
study on what the Bible teaches about eating fat. When asked where in the Bible discusses the topic about eating fat, most people would turn
1:24
to the following scripture. Leviticus 3 verse 17 tells us, This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come
1:31
Wherever you live, you must not eat any fat or any blood. Another verse would be Livitykous 7, verses 22 to 25
1:40
Yahu said to Moses, say to the Israelites, do not eat any of the fat of cattle, sheep or goats
1:48
The fat of an animal found dead or torn by wild animals may be used for any other purpose
1:53
but you must not eat it. Anyone who eats the fat of an animal from which a food offering may be presented to Yahweh must be cut off from their people
2:03
From these verses, it is very easy to see that God forbids eating fat
2:09
However, other scriptures seemingly contradict this assumption. Some of these verses include the following
2:17
Genesis 45 verse 18 tells us, And take your father and your households and come to me
2:23
and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land
2:29
Another one, Himayah 8 verse 10. Then he said unto them, go your way
2:35
eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions under them for whom nothing is prepared
2:41
for this day is holy unto our Lord. Neither be you sorry, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength
2:48
We also read Luke 15, verse 22. But the father said to his servants
2:54
Quick, bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet
3:00
Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate
3:06
Comparing all these verses, we have a dilemma here. Let's God forbid the eating of fat or not
3:13
Was God a double-minded God? He changes his mind every once in a while
3:18
Of course not. So how can we explain this? these verses and reconcile them to each other
3:24
Now here's the truth about eating fat according to the Bible. God does not forbid eating all types of fat
3:33
There's just a specific type of fat he wants us to avoid. We can learn about this fat as we take a deeper look at what the Bible reasses about eating fat
3:44
Davidincus 1 verse 8 tells us and the priests Aaron sons shall lay the parts the head and the fat in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar
3:56
If you look at the Hebrew word translated as fat from this verse, it is Peder
4:02
Strong sectionary defines this as from unused root meaning to be greasy, suet, or fat
4:09
The term Peder was only used thrice in the Old Testament, and was consistently used
4:15
in relation to the animal sacrifices. Peder is derived from a root word which means greasy
4:22
and it refers to the hard fat in the animal, usually located around the kidneys, loins, and liver
4:31
This is supported by the scripture as we read the following verses. Leviticus 9 verse 10
4:37
but the fat and the kidneys and the cow above the liver of the sin offering
4:41
he burnt upon the altar as Yahweh commanded Moses. The viticose believers 4
4:47
And the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, which is by the flax and the cowl above the liver with the kidneys
4:54
it shall he take away. The fat in the kidney can be readily understood
4:59
But what is the cowl above the liver? Under's Bible dictionary defines cowlose as the liver net or stomach net
5:08
which commences at the division between the right and left lobes of the liver
5:12
And it stretches on the one side across the stomach, and on the other to the regions of the kidney
5:19
Now, why would God command such restriction? All of these fats and tissues are for the purpose of either holding, filtering, and storing
5:28
waste products and toxins that can be harmful to the body. Now, God knows the purpose of these fats and tissues and therefore considers them as
5:39
a fit for human consumption. So in discussing about fat, God is specifically
5:45
identify the suet or greasy heart fat of the animals as something dangerous to our health
5:52
Kyle wants to make sure that these types of fats are burned during the sacrificialira
5:56
ceremony and therefore not to be eaten by his people. Now here's a starting and amazing fact
6:03
that most people don't know about fat and milk. They share the same unused Hebrew word that
6:10
means to be fat. As we have discussed earlier, the Hebrew word for fat
6:15
fat is peder. But there is also another Hebrew word from where the word fat is derived
6:21
It is Kileb. Milk has almost the same Hebrew word which is Kalab
6:28
Remember that the original Hebrew text does not contain any vowel. So whenever we see fat or milk in the Hebrew text, it is written as C-H-L-B
6:41
And it is up to the translator whether to translate it to fat, to fat or milk depending on the context
6:48
So what is the significance in understanding this concept? Milk is considered as fat
6:56
In fact, we find more than 400 different fatty acids in milk
7:00
and most of them are saturated fat. Here's the question. If God forbids his people to abstain from fat
7:09
should we stop drinking milk? The obvious answer is no. We are in Exodus 3 verse 8, and I am come down to deliver them out of the head of the Egyptians
7:20
and to bring them out of that land into a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey
7:29
unto the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and Peresites and the Heavites and the Jebusites Time and again God reiterated that he would bring the Israelites to a land flowing with milk and honey We read that in Exodus 3 verse 17 Davidicus 20 verse 24 Numbers 13 verse 27
7:51
and Guteronomy 31 verse 20, just the name of you. So what does this tell us? It teaches us that
7:58
God does not forbid the eating of all types of fat, but it specifically identified a certain type of fat
8:05
that we shouldn't eat. I want to repeat the instruction of the viticus 7 verse 23
8:12
It says, ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, of sheep, or of goat
8:18
We can derive a general principle from this verse. We should not eat any of the visible fat of clean animals
8:26
During the ancient time, God specified the areas of the animal where we can normally find the fat deposit from their bodies
8:33
Those farmed animals ate on the pasture where healthy green grass were present
8:40
Moreover, these animals had a daily dose of exercise. Thus, we can be sure that the animals during that time were healthy
8:48
and the animals provided nutritious meat with minimal harmful fat. However, during our modern times where commercialism dominates
8:57
the main objective is to get your livestock as fat as possible. The fat are the animal, the bigger the price
9:03
To disend, farmers feed their cattle with commercialized feeds. Worst, the farmed animals receive little to no exercise as they are kept in cages
9:15
While times may have changed, the motive and intention behind God's instructions about eating fat remain the same
9:22
We should avoid visible fat as much as possible. Today, we can entirely avoid eating fats from farmed animals
9:31
There are just some fass that are difficult to see. We don't see some fats that are mixed with the protein of the meat
9:37
Personally, I believe that it is acceptable to eat fats that we don't see
9:41
which are also found together with the meat's protein. I also believe that God was referring to the visible fat
9:48
when he gave the instruction on which type of fat not to eat. Please note that this is my personal view
9:54
One thing we also do in our house is when we boil meat. We let it sit for a while and let it cool
10:01
Once it is cool, the boiled fat hard. and it will remove them as we consider it as visible fat
10:07
When we consider God's multiple reference of giving the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey
10:13
we can see that God does not warn his people about eating too much fat
10:18
Take for example the batter. Butter is a concentrated form of milk and fat
10:24
When the god who later become Jesus Christ or Yahshua came and visited Abraham together with two angels
10:30
we see that Abraham offered butter to them. butter to them. That's Genesis 18, verse 8. Even Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would eat
10:39
butter, Isaiah 7, verse 15. From this scripture, the Bible endorses the consumption of butter
10:47
It is worth noting that the ancients did that consume butter the way we consume butter today
10:52
They don't just use butter as a means of spreading them on a sliced bread or adding butter to their meals
10:59
They consume butter in a larger quantity compared to how much. you consume them in modern times. Butter is actually a main part of the Middle Eastern diet
11:09
and it's freely and generously available. So what's the point in all of this? The point is, God does
11:17
not warn us against eating too much fat. He only instructed us not to eat a certain type of fat
11:23
and that is the type of fat that we were discussing earlier Another thing to consider is the olive oil which also contains fat In the biblical times olive oil was used in baking frying and cooking This also generously
11:38
added to soup, salads, and vegetable. With this in mind, we can possibly conclude that the Bible
11:45
encourages a low-fat diet. If there's one type of fat that we all should avoid, it would be the
11:51
trans fat. While trans fat is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, we can
11:56
obtain certain principles to why trans fat is bad for our health
12:01
We read in the Bible that butter is good for our health. However, we know that the natural human mind is hostile to God as we read in Romans 8 verse 7
12:11
So man went on to say that butter is not good for our health and created his own version of
12:17
butter, and thus we now have margarine. There are basically two types of fat, saturated and the unsaturated facts
12:26
Saturated fats are solid and unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature
12:32
What makes saturated fats saturated? They are saturated with hydrogen molecules. On the other hand, unsaturated fats lack hydrogen molecules. Thus, food scientists have an easier way to meddle with unsaturated fats
12:48
When scientists add hydrogen to unsaturated fats, they become hydrogenated fats, and thus we arrive at having a lot of saturated fats
12:56
the hydrogenated fats or better known as trans fat. Why do scientists need to hydrogenate fats
13:04
Well, for one, they want to turn healthy liquid fat into solids
13:08
and prevent them from becoming rancid. The whole process transforms healthy and beneficial oils
13:14
into health-wrecking fats. When we look into food labels, you should avoid food with hydrogenated fats
13:23
trans fats, or partially hydrogenated oil. Back in the days when trans fats are making its way to popularity, it was first found in margarines and vegetable shortening
13:34
As people discover more uses of trans fats, it has now become commercially available and most processed food contained, such as pastries, cookies, and fast food french fries
13:46
Now here's that another reason why we should not eat french fries
13:50
Why are trans fat bad for you? Trans fat increases the amount of bad cholesterol in the food
13:55
bad cholesterol in your body. Ed decreases the amount of good cholesterol at the same time
14:01
Transfat is also linked to increased risk of type to diabetes, stroke, and heart diseases
14:07
So always read the label. If you read trans fat and hydrogenated fat, you know that that food
14:13
won't be good for you. So stay away from there. God promised the physical nation of Israel
14:19
to bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey. As part of God's blessings, he gave the fat
14:25
of the land to be a source of food for his people. The fats found in dairy products, eggs, clean meat, and olive oil are intended for human consumption
14:34
However, God was very specific for us not to eat the solid fat of the animals
14:40
So does God forbid the eating of fat? We have seen the answer and that answer is it depends upon the type of fat we are talking about
14:48
So the next time someone asks you whether we can eat fat or not according to the Bible
14:53
you can definitely answer them. That's it for me. I'm Joshua Infantado, becoming Christians, hoping and praying that the most high God will lead you to all truths
