Hello everyone, I'm starting a Bible study series entitled The Seven Qualities of Effective Prayers
0:06
In this series, I'm going to discuss what makes prayers more effective in helping you grow closer to God
0:14
You see, the Bible reveals that there are good prayers and bad prayers
0:19
I have previously created a video entitled How to Pray Bad Prayers
0:23
So do check it out because it serves as an introduction to this video series
0:27
Since there are good prayers and bad prayers, we need to make sure that we are praying the right prayers
0:35
Because if we don't, the Bible tells us that our prayer can be abominable, disgusting, and abhorrent to God
0:45
So that's the main goal of this Bible study series. To help you improve your prayer life, I'm going to share with you the seven important and crucial qualities that your prayers
0:57
should have. When you add these qualities, you will soon see how your prayers become a more effective
1:04
tool in drawing closer to God. So let's start with our Bible study series with the first quality
1:11
Humble Prayer. The first quality I want to discuss is humble prayer. You see, our prayer
1:18
should come from a humble heart. Notice the role of humility in prayer. We read in Second Chronicles 7 verse 14
1:27
who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked
1:36
ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land
1:43
Notice that you need to humble yourself first before you can truly pray to God and seek his face
1:49
If you are filled with pride you have a hard time asking for God will in your life You will have a hard time approaching God because of your ego So what does it mean to be humble in prayer
2:02
Here are some answers. Number one, we must acknowledge our own sinfulness
2:08
A humble person acknowledges his or her sins. He won't deny or hide them
2:14
If we can't see our hopeless situation apart from God, we won't be able to pray effectively because we are going to rely on ourselves rather than God
2:26
This point is well illustrated in the parable of the Pharisee and tax collector
2:31
We read in Luke 18, verse 9 to 14. Also, he spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others
2:42
Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other at times
2:47
tax collector. The Pharisees stood and prayed thus with himself. God, I thank you that I am not like
2:54
other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week. I give
3:03
tides of all that I possess. And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise
3:10
his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me
3:17
a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other
3:24
for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted
3:32
So those who are humble will be exalted, and those who are filled with pride will be humbled
3:38
When we acknowledge our sins, we can better repent of them and change for the better
3:44
Now this leads us to the second answer How can we be humble in prayer Number two ask for forgiveness You can truly and sincerely ask for forgiveness if you are filled with pride
3:57
That's why you need to be humble first before you can come before God
4:02
Asking God's forgiveness demands humility. Asking for God's forgiveness demands putting away our pride
4:10
and replacing it with God's humbling grace and mercy. Next, we must recognize God's greatness
4:20
Being humble before God is recognizing his majestic, almighty power. We are all nothing apart from God
4:28
What are we in comparison to God's power and glory? We are nothing
4:32
In reality, we are made of flesh and blood. We are made of dust and we shall return to dust
4:39
We are simply nothing without God. What 70 years of life compared to God's eternal existence
4:45
Therefore, we must approach God with the attitude of complete humility, because no matter who you are, no matter what you have accomplished in life, and no matter how great you might think you are, you can simply compare yourself to God
5:01
We recognize that God is greater than any of us. Nothing compares to his glory and wisdom
5:08
When we consider the omnipotent power of God, we can't help but be humble before the presence of God
5:15
our Creator. Next, submit to God's will. Jesus Christ, or properly known as Yahshua the Messiah
5:23
tells us that we should include in our prayers for God's will to happen in our lives. We read in Matthew 6
5:31
10, Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. It takes a truly
5:40
humble heart to ask for God will to be done and not our will It takes a humble heart to give up what you want in your life and have what God wants in your life When we ask for God will to be done
5:55
we are saying that we are surrendering our life to him and that we simply let God guide every step
6:02
that we take. So friends, that's the first quality of a highly effective prayer, humility. The next time you pray
6:10
Always go before God with a humble heart, asking for his will and a true will to be done
6:16
Most importantly, submit to his power and authority. And let him guide you throughout your life
6:23
