1:04
With that being said, let us proceed in discussing the seven biggest lies about speaking in tongues
1:09
Line number one, speaking in tongues is an unknown language. Many petticoastal and charismatic practices include speaking in their worship
1:19
Generally, the way they do it is they have this emotional preaching and emotional music, active movement
1:26
praying with their arms raised, praying and trying to pray down the Spirit
1:32
Slowly they become possessed by the Spirit. You'll then start hearing them bubbling unintelligible words that no one can understand
1:41
Some may simply whisper these words while others may shout. However, if you have truly read and understand the Bible
1:49
speaking tongues does not mean speaking words no one can understand. Perhaps the most popular time when people started to speak in tongues was recorded in Acts 2 verse 1 to 4
2:01
Let's read this verse to better understand what speaking tongues really means
2:06
When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place
2:12
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind
2:17
and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues as a fire, and one side
2:24
and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
2:29
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance
2:34
The Day of Pentecost signifies the day when the Most High God will part down His Spirit to His people
2:41
Thus on that day in Acts 2, falt 4, it was the time when the Set Apart Spirit
2:46
or the Holy Spirit was made available on a bigger scale. One of their souls receiving the Holy Spirit was that the followers
2:54
of Yahshua or Jesus Christ spoke in tongues. If you look into the Greek word of
3:00
tongues in this passage, it is Glossa. Theor's Dictionary defines Glossa this way. Glossa is
3:07
a language or dialect used by a particular people distinct from that of the other nations
3:13
As you can see, speaking in tongues means speaking in a language that people would understand
3:20
It is not a mysterious bubbling, whispering or shouting of words. that no one can comprehend
3:26
This is further proven when you read Acts 2, 5 to 8
3:30
And there were dwelling Jerusalem, Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven
3:36
And when the sound occurred, the multitude came together and were confused
3:41
because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled saying to one another
3:48
look, are not all these who speak callelians? And how is it that we hear each in our own
3:54
language in which we were born in verse 11 we read we hear them speaking our own
4:00
tongues the wonderful works of God at that time people from different places
4:06
came together in Jerusalem as a result the audience of the disciples was a mixed
4:12
group of people some are Parthians Medes and Illamites those dwelling in
4:19
Mesopotamia Judea and Capadocia Pontus in Asia Brigia and Fampilia, Egypt, and parts of Libya adjoining Sirene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes
4:31
Cretans and Arams. There's no doubt that when a person speaks in tongues, he speaks in a language that people understand
4:40
Line number two speaking in tongues is speaking in a secret or secret language Some preachers would tell you that it is only natural that you won understand the person who speaks in tongues The reason for this they argue is that they are speaking a divine language
4:59
Some would say that they are speaking the language of heaven or of the angels
5:04
They would use 1 Corinthians 14 verse 2 to support their claim
5:08
Let's read that. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men
5:13
but to God, for no one understands him. However, in the Spirit he speaks mysteries
5:21
On the surface, it seems to speakers of random words got their supporting verse
5:26
However, if you look at the context, this verse talks about a big problem in the church in Corinth
5:32
Remember that Corinth is predominantly a pagan city. A lot of church members there were pagans in the past
5:40
In 1 Corinthians 12 verse 1 to 2, we read. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant
5:48
You know that you were gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led
5:55
Paul was saying here that some the Corinthian brethren were still being influenced by their former paganistic way
6:02
As a result, they have a wrong understanding of what spiritual gifts were
6:07
Some Bible scholars understood that some of the paganistic practices in Curran include speaking special specials
6:13
speech that required special interpretation. As a result, chaos happened in Church of Current
6:20
The church services at that time became disorganized, disorderly, and disruptive. People are trying to outdo each other by raising their voices and not listening to each other
6:32
This eventually led to the division and schism within the congregation. This is the main problem that Paul was trying to address
6:41
Paul had to write in 1st Corinthians 14, verse 14. let all things be done decently and in order because in the first place decency and order weren't present in the church service so we come to first corin chance 14 verse 2 we read for he who speaks in tongue does not speak to men but to God for no one understands him however in the spirit he speaks mysteries this simply means that there are brethren in current who can speak various tongues or languages
7:13
that person may use a different language. To other people, they may not understand him because he is not using a language they can understand
7:24
However, to God, that person is readily understood because God knows what language that is
7:31
Let me give you an example. You know that I'm a Filipino. I grew up in the Philippines
7:37
Most of you understand English. If I speak in Filipino, you won't understand me
7:42
However, God can understand. In effect, I'm not speaking to you anymore, but I'm speaking to God when I use Filipino
7:52
That's the point of 1 Corinthians 14, verse 2. Paul went on to say that it is difficult to edify one another
7:59
If you are speaking in a language, your audience does not understand. As you can see, 1 Corinthians 14 verse 2 does not prove that we should be speaking in tongues in the church today
8:11
So let's proceed to the next point. Lie number three, speaking in tongues naturally leads to uncontrollable emotions
8:18
If you have watched a church that speaks in tongues, you might be surprised how chaotic their worship services can be
8:25
Once they have brayed down the spirit and have it possessed them, they start to do some unusual movements
8:33
It starts with their mouth, then their heads, hands, legs, and feet, and the whole body
8:39
In some extreme cases, some members who were supposed to speak, Pick in towns would start to shake violently, jump up and down, and fall down the ground
8:48
The whole building may be filled with various types of noise. In short, you can describe such a scene in one word
8:56
Keiorek. I have read one person attended Pentecostal services out of curiosity
9:02
and this is how described this experience. He wrote, In one such meeting where everyone was exhorted to seek the spirit
9:10
I happened to be sitting just in front of a name. Negro woman, who was suddenly ceased with strange convulsions
9:16
She began to throw her body forward and backward, her head shaking, and her neck almost snapping with the ferocity of these convulsions
9:25
She was literally foaming at the mouth, gnashing her teeth, groaning with strange guttural mournful moans and her eyes were rolled back in her head and had a strange blazed appearance I have been in hospital words and seen people dying in near death
9:43
but I have never seen a more revolting sight in my life than the type of convulsive fit
9:48
which suddenly sees this poor woman. The Bible tells us an important principle of how we should conduct ourselves
9:55
not just in our daily lives, but also in the church. We read in 1st Corinthians 14, verse 33
10:02
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace as in all the churches of the saints
10:09
If speaking in tongues leads to uncontrollable emotions, movements and talking, then surely this is not what God has authored
10:18
These are all signs of confusion which God didn't produce. In verse 40 of the same verse we read
10:26
Let all things be done decently and in order. Now ask yourself
10:30
Is speaking in tongues all at the same time, feeling the room with so much unintelligible noise, can be considered as decent
10:39
Is speaking in tongues through shouting, running, falling down to the ground, can be considered orderly
10:47
If you're to be honest, the answer is no. Line number four, you have to speak in tongues to prove the Holy Spirit is in you
10:57
If you have attended a Pentecostal and charismatic church, or anything, any group with the wrong understanding of speaking tongues, they will tell you that
11:04
speaking in tongues is a sign that you have the Holy Spirit. If you can't speak in
11:09
tongues, you don't have the Holy Spirit. Now the truth is speaking in tongues is
11:15
one of the spiritual gifts. Therefore having this gift means that you have the Holy
11:20
Spirit working in you. However, it is definitely wrong to say that speaking in
11:26
tongues is the only sign that the Holy Spirit is in you. Think about it for a second
11:32
Our Master and Savior, Yeshua, the Messiah, or popularly known as Jesus Christ, didn't speak in tongues. Why
11:40
Because there's no need for him to speak in tongues. He spoke to his own people when he preached
11:46
His audience readily understood the dialect he used. Now, would you say that Jesus lacks spiritual gift simply because he didn't speak in tongues
11:56
Does this mean that he doesn't have the Holy Spirit? Of course not
12:00
Even in the Old Testament, speaking in tongues was never recorded. It only shows that speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift given out of necessity
12:11
The spiritual gift of speaking in tongues was needed to accelerate the preaching of the gospel
12:15
to people of different languages and nations. Line number 5. Mark 16 verse 17 supports speaking in tongues
12:24
Some Christians use Mark 16 verse 17 as a proof that speaking in tongues is still
12:30
available and should be done in churches. However, if you read the bigger context of this verse
12:37
you will soon realize it is never the case. Let's read Mark 16, verse 15 to 18
12:43
And he said to them, go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature
12:49
He who believes and is baptized will be saved. But he who does not believe will be condemned
12:55
And these signs will follow those who believe. In my name, they will cast out
13:00
demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents, and they will drink
13:05
anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them. They will lay hands on the sick and
13:11
they will recover. Now if we believe that everyone who is baptized can and should speak in
13:17
tongues, then we must also believe that everyone can cast out demons, play with venomous snakes
13:23
get beaten and not die, drink poison and will not get sick, and lay hands on all sick people
13:29
and the sick will recover. Obviously, this is not a correct understanding of this verse
13:36
Mark 16, verse 15 to 18, is part of the great commission Christ gave to the disciples
13:42
The signs Jesus enumerated here are primarily given to the apostles and the elders of the church
13:48
as they perform their duty. It does not mean that everyone today in the church would be able to speak in tongues
13:56
Line number six, speaking in tongues should be the focus of the church. Because of the supposed supernatural power of speaking in tongues, a lot of
14:05
preachers influence your members to focus on this gift. Nevertheless, the truth is, the church
14:12
should not focus on speaking in tongues anymore because it is not available to everyone anymore
14:19
Instead we must focus on developing our relationship with God studying His Word seeking the truth and following His commandments If you try to look at the Pentecostal and charismatic movements especially during their Tari meetings
14:35
you won't usually hear about obeying God. You won't hear much about feeling sorry for your sin, asking for forgiveness, and seeking God's will
14:45
Instead, what you see is that the leaders are more interested in seeking physical
14:51
physical, emotional, and sensual thrills. If a church focuses on speaking in tongues, they will surely miss the most important aspects of the Christian life
15:02
Lie number seven, we need to speak in tongues to experience the Holy Spirit
15:08
This one's the greatest lie of all. It is not true that we must speak in tongues to prove that the Holy Spirit is within us
15:16
One has to repent of his or her sins to get baptized and get hands laid up
15:21
upon him or her to receive the Holy Spirit. We read in Acts 2 verse 38
15:27
Then Peter said to them, repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name Jesus Christ
15:32
for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
15:38
The Bible tells us that you have the Holy Spirit and being led by it
15:42
when we bear its fruit. When we become more like Christ and less like ourselves
15:49
we are letting the Holy Spirit dwell in us. Having the Holy Spirit is not proven when you use speaking in tongues as the obvious and showy sign
16:00
The Holy Spirit makes you humble, not proud and arrogant. The Holy Spirit helps you to be at peace not being controlled by emotions
16:10
These are the seven most popular and terrifying lies about speaking in tongues
16:14
With this, I hope you now know the truth about speaking in tongues, what it is and what it is not
16:21
Speaking in tongues is an important miracle that happened during the day of Pentecost
16:26
after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ or Yeshua. It helped the apostles, disciples, and members of the church to preach the gospel throughout the world
16:37
Because there's a need for the church members to speak in a language that people understand
16:43
God gave them the gift of speaking in tongues. Today, there's almost no name
16:48
for the miracle of speaking in tongues anymore. God can use other tools and methods to have
16:54
his word proclaimed throughout the world. When you see churches claiming that they can speak in
16:59
tongues, that should raise a red flag. Be careful because evil spirits can imitate spiritual
17:06
gifts and use them to confuse and deceive people. That's why we need to heed the instruction
17:13
of the Apostle John in 1st John for verse 1. Beloved, do not
17:18
believe every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God, because many false
17:25
prophets have gone out into the world. Don't be easily impressed with people who claim
17:31
to be speaking in tongues. As we have seen the Bible, speaking in tongues means
17:35
speaking in a clear and understandable language. It doesn't mean you speak in a
17:41
gibberish language and do all kinds of uncontrollable gestures and actions. Instead
17:47
to read in 2 Timothy 1 verse 7. For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love
17:55
and of a sound mind. With that said friends I hope you have a better understanding of what speaking
18:02
tongues really is. In line with this topic please don't forget my free book offer entitled
