On April 9, 2022, we visited our spiritual brothers and sisters in Pantukan, which is a small municipality in Davao de Oro. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of about 91,000 people.
We started our trip at around 7:15 am. After about two hours, we arrived at our destination.
The area isn’t completely developed yet. We have to cross a river to reach our meeting hall. We had our morning and afternoon Sabbath services.
It’s a joy to spend the Sabbath with the brethren in remote areas. Normally, we only see each other at least once a year, during the Feast of Tabernacles.

From service to God to service to His people
After the services, we head to the house of Mr. Sabello. We aimed to fix his solar panel. It’s been months now since he lost electricity.
His house is so remote that the electric supply can’t reach his place. As a way to help them, our church group helped him and his family to gain access to electricity through solar energy.
It took us 30-40 minutes to reach their house. We have to once again cross rivers, and go through ravines and cornfields, and forested areas.
Finally, we were able to reach Mr. Sabello’s house and fixed his solar panel by adding a new inverter.
I could see the joy in Mr. Sabello’s face when the bulb lit up and cast light throughout the house.
Called to be lights
Truly, it’s difficult to live in a place where there’s no light but darkness. However, that’s exactly the condition of our world right now.
This world is engulfed by deep darkness.
That’s why you and I are called to be a light to the world.
We read in Matthew 5:14-16:
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
We are not simply to hide our light, but to let it shine so others may see our light and lead them to glorify God.
We are to be a light not to draw attention to ourselves but to let people know about the mercy, goodness, and love of the Most High God.
May light reign in our hearts and let it shine brightly for God to use us in fulfilling His purpose here on earth!
