Why you should read the book, “Is God a Moral Monster?”

In this blog, let me share with you the important reasons why you should read “Is God a Moral Monster.” Let me also briefly go through the lessons you’ll learn from this book.

A religion in crisis

We live in a time and age where Christianity is questioned, ridiculed, and worst, ignored by the majority of this world’s population.

According to statistics, especially in developed countries, atheism is on the rise. More and more people are leaving their affiliated religious groups. Huge church buildings across the Western Countries are abandoned, sold, and converted into commercial establishments.

So, as Christians, it is inevitable that we will meet people who will question our faith. We will meet opposition, objections, and challenges.

If you are not careful, you might as well give up your faith because of the lack of knowledge and skills needed to defend God’s word.

That’s where the book, Is God a Moral Monster comes in.

Why should you read Is God a Moral Monster?

Good question.

Here’s the answer:

15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15).

As responsible and true followers of Christ, we must always be ready to give a defense to everyone.

If someone asks you why God is called a Jealous God, would you be able to answer?

What if someone tells you about the many instances of rape and slavery in the Bible, would you be able to explain them?

Can you satisfactorily answer a skeptic when he presents to you the arguments against your faith?

You and I have a responsibility to know these answers.

We are not to simply base our religion on blind faith.

We can and we should know the answer.

What is more important as well is that we don’t learn these truths for the sake of others, but also for our own sake. By learning the explanations about the difficult passages in the Bible, we also strengthen our faith in the process.

Thankfully, Paul Copan, in his book, will give you a thorough explanation. So, I highly recommend you read through this book.

I have personally read this book and used some of his insights as a basis for my blogs in the past. For example, the explanation I used from my blog, “Is God a Jealous God?”, is from this book.

  1. I read the book, and it’s pretty interesting. I learned that atheists call the Old Testament without even really understanding it. The basic message of the Old Testament is – ‘Sinful people will be punished somehow because God is just and righteous.’
