Today’s reading: Galatians 6:7-10

You reap what you sow

We read in Galatians 6:7-10:

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

One of the greatest principles in the Bible is the principle of sowing and reaping. You will reap what you sow and that’s something we must always remember every time we make a decision.

Paul was telling us not to be deceived because there are times when we forget about this principle. We think that we can escape the consequences of our actions. We also think that sometimes, doing good will not give us a reward.

Yet, God tells us that ultimately, you will reap what you sow. If you sow in the flesh, then you will reap corruption. If you sow in the Spirit, then you will reap eternal life.

As you know, you can’t expect to get guavas if you planted a mango seed. In the same manner, you can’t expect good things to happen when you sow bad seeds. The bad seed that you sow may not grow immediately, but in time, you will reap its consequences.

On the other hand, Paul was saying that we should be sowing good plants. While you may not see its fruit immediately, you should be patient. We should not be weary and get tired of sowing those good seeds, because when harvest comes, we will have an abundant harvest of good fruits.

Since we reap what we sow, Paul concluded that we must do good to all —- sow good seed — as we are able. We need to grab every opportunity to do good because this is how life works. You will reap what you sow.
