Today’s reading: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one

We read in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12:

9 Two are better than one,
Because they have a good reward for their labor.

10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up.

11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone?

12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

King Solomon knew how difficult life is. However, he noted how life becomes even worse when we live it alone. Life can be tough, but it becomes more bearable when we have others to help us.

Life is not meant to be lived in solitary confinement. As the old saying goes, “No man is an island.” From the moment we were born, we needed the care of our mother. Not only that, but it shows us that we are better raised when there are two parents involved in child-rearing.

When we grow up, we still need other people to fulfill the void in our hearts. As social beings, we are designed to communicate and interact with each other.

There are a lot of benefits that we get in a godly partnership. What we can’t accomplish alone, we can accomplish together. Whether in friendship, marriage, and family, having someone you can count on can be a tremendous blessing.

King Solomon showed us why two are better than one. First, it helps us to be productive in our labor. Next, we get help when we are in need. Third, we get comfort. Fourth, we become stronger. The strength of one is multiplied by two.

So, don’t try to live your life alone and for yourself. Enjoy God’s blessings He bestowed upon godly partnership.
