Today’s reading: Proverbs 6:6-8

Learn from the ant

We read in Proverbs 6:6-8:

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard!
Consider her ways and be wise,

7 Which, having no captain,
Overseer or ruler,

8 Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.

Diligence and hard work are both important when it comes to achieving success in life. Nothing comes easy and those who try to escape work will not only thrive but will not survive.

It’s wonderful to note how God often teaches us great lessons from seemingly small and insignificant things. In this case, King Solomon directed our attention to the ants.

Solomon addresses the sluggards — the lazy people. He told them to look at the ant, observe their ways, and obtain wisdom.

The ants work hard even without any supervision. They have the initiative to make things done. Their diligence comes from within them. You can definitely rely on them.

Because of the natural diligence of the ants, they are able to gather food and prepare for any season of the year. They work hard as individuals and as a team.

The ants don’t simply work and work. They have plans. They know that there’s a purpose for their job. They understand that the hard work they do today will pay off tomorrow.

Diligence and hard work are two valuable aspects of our lives. Life is difficult and if you go through life lazily, you’ll end up suffering. So, you just have to choose, will you choose to go through the pain of hard work or the pain of laziness?

Both can be difficult, but one is more productive and a way better choice.

  1. I love this verse and the inspiration that goes with it. However, there is another truth to this verse, the fact there is a season of judgment that is on its way, and like the ant we are to be taking advantage of the season we have today in preparation for the season to come…
