Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18

The message of the torture stake

We read in 1 Corinthians 1:18:

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

The Apostle Paul divided the people into two categories: The perishing and those who are being saved. The main difference between the two is how they perceive the message of the torture stake or the cross.

To those perishing, God’s message of redemption is foolishness. After all, Yahshua the Messiah was crucified. For the non-believers, they believe that gods are supposed to be powerful. They are supposed to reign, not nailed to a pole. For the ungodly, crucifying a god is unthinkable and could only mean one thing —- that god isn’t powerful.

On top of it all, people knew that dying on the cross is the lowest of all deaths. The most repulsive criminals died on the cross and certainly, it is foolish to worship those who died a such gruesome death.

In this verse, the word “foolishness” came from the Greek word, “moria,” where the English word moron came from. To put it bluntly, the unbelievers see God’s message and its preachers idiots, stupid, and dimwits.

Nevertheless, for those who believe, the message of Christ’s sacrifice is the power of God. The sacrifice and death of Yahshua on the torture stake is God’s redemptive and saving power that made salvation possible for all those who believe.

We may look foolish to the wise of this world. We may look dumb for believing an old book. We may look stupid for following an invisible God. However, we know by faith that we believe in the power of the Most High God.

We know that God is working with each of us individually. Everyone has their time, but now is our time. May we not waste this great opportunity to serve the living God.

  1. I’m a fool, I’m an idiot. No problem. But as long as He is with me, I need not care what others say. In Jesus’s name. Hallelujah! Amen!

  2. The precise components of our existence how our universe and how our body sync from our senses, heartbeat, and other vitals, how we heal when injured or sick, to the design of the colors of all life can only be from a Master Mind, our caring, and loving Father. The believers see man’s evolution message as a task manifested in which has no knowledge.
