Today’s reading: Psalms 35:3
“I am your salvation”
We read in Psalms 35:3:
3 Also draw out the spear,
And stop those who pursue me.Say to my soul,
“I am your salvation.”
When you look at the Hebrew word for salvation, it is actually, Yehshua or Yahshua. It is kind of interesting to note that even in Psalms and before Christ’s human existence, His name was already written.
In essence, David wanted to hear, “I am your Yahshua.” David wanted to belong to God. He doesn’t want to be a follower of anything or anyone, but God alone.
This reminds me of what the Apostle Peter said thousands of years ago in Acts 4:8-12:
10 Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Yahshua the Messiah of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
As you can see, there’s a great connection between Psalm 35:3 and what Peter explained in Acts.
No other name can save us. No other gods can give us salvation. No material wealth can ever give us ultimate safety.
That’s why David here was asking for God’s divine protection. David was probably in great danger when he wrote this psalm or when he contemplated it. His trouble was so great that he needed reassurance from Yahweh.
He wanted to hear from God once again that He is His salvation, that no one else can provide such important benediction. For David to hear those words, he would renew his strength and confirm that God is with him.
I wonder if we also have thought about this before, that Yahweh is our salvation. Have we ever thought about its true meaning and significance?
