Today’s reading: Acts 9:22
From an enemy to a defender of the faith
We read in Acts 9:22:
22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that Jesus is the Christ.
Perhaps, one of the most dramatic changes we have ever seen in the first-century church is the conversion of Paul. In such a short time, he was changed, from an enemy who wreaked unimaginable havoc on the church to a friend who defended the faith and now someone who preaches Yahshua and the Gospel!
Paul was a living testimony of the power of the Holy Spirit to change people for the better. Paul is proof that no matter how bad your past is, you can still change and receive God’s grace.
Indeed, Paul would later write:
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
God perfectly knew Paul’s actions in the past but God transformed him to become a new creation. His past is past and now, He is living for the Almighty.
The people around Paul couldn’t believe their eyes. They had a hard time seeing Paul who was an ardent enemy of the Way and now, he is of the Way.
Paul, who was an expert on the Torah and Hebrew Scripture, was strongly convinced that Yahshua is the Messiah. Once it was divinely revealed unto him, he took the opportunity to serve God and never looked back.
What more powerful testimony can we have when we see a passionate enemy of God turned into a friend of God. It is like seeing a famous and militant atheist today turning to God.
Paul was a mess that God turned into a message. All of us can also be like Paul, a tool in God’s hands. God has called us to His Church and to do the work. Let us not waste this opportunity.
