📅 Are you complaining or thanking? – Daily Bible Reading

Today’s reading: Numbers 11:1

The heart of murmurings

Did you know that a normal heart makes two sounds in every beat? It sounds like a lub-dub, made by the opening and closing of the heart valves.

However, when there’s an extra sound, it is called a heart murmur.

Heart murmurs aren’t normal and they could be a sign of a heart problem.

It’s quite interesting how the Israelites have not a physical heart murmur, but a spiritual heart murmur.

In Numbers 11:1, we read:

The people were complaining in the ears of יהוה.
When יהוה heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire
of יהוה burnt among them, and consumed some of the
outskirts of the camp.

It’s quite astonishing to see how a people so blessed by the Almighty can still find in their hearts to complain and murmur. Yahweh, like a loving Father, did so much for Israel, yet, what did He get?

Complaining.

You see, in Number 11:1, we read that when we complain and murmur, we are displeasing God.

Now, there’s a difference between presenting your problems to God and complaining. You can actually present your request before God without complaining.

How?

By replacing your heart of murmurings with the heart of gratitude.

When our hearts are filled with gratitude and the satisfaction that the Most High is our Father, we minimize and even avoid complaining.

Sometimes, we desire things that we don’t have so much that we forget about the things that we already have — the things that God has already done for us.

Focus your mind on God’s blessings.

You will soon see what you don’t have is nothing compared to what you already have.

Let the Almighty bless you according to His will and purpose.

With that, be thankful.

You will soon see how life is much better if you’re grateful. 🙂
