Today’s reading: Leviticus 14:2
Accepting responsibility
We read in Leviticus 16:8-10:
8 Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat. 9 And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the LORD’s lot fell, and offer it as a sin offering. 10 But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the scapegoat into the wilderness.
The word scapegoat was inspired by Leviticus 16.
We see that on the Day of Atonement, there were two goats. One is to be killed and the other is the one that will bear the sin of Israel and will be led to the wilderness — the scapegoat.
Today, it has a different meaning. A scapegoat has come to mean any group or individual that innocently bears the blame of others.
In the Bible, we know that the scapegoat represents Satan. In trickery, Satan successfully turned the meaning of scapegoat to mean that he is innocent of all the lawlessness he had done to God and man.
As we can see, not accepting responsibility is a mark of Satan. In his mind, it is not his fault that he has turned evil. It is not his fault that he rebelled against God. It is not his fault that many people are now under his influence and going according to his evil ways.
This tells us that if we don’t accept responsibilities for the things we have done, we are actually becoming like Satan.
Accepting responsibilities is a mark of maturity and a mark of a true Christian. You can’t spiritually grow without accepting responsibility. This is true not just in our spiritual lives but also in all aspects such as in work, school, and relationships.
When we refuse to accept responsibility and put the blame on others, we are actually doing a disservice to ourselves and others. We miss the opportunity to grow.
However, when we learn to take responsibility for the actions we took, it helps us to learn from our mistakes, become wiser, and move on with more clarity in mind. Accepting responsibility also builds character.
Ultimately, we can’t be part of God’s Kingdom if we refuse to accept responsibility. Our role in the kingdom involves being kings and priests, all of which are responsibilities to take.
So, stop blaming others like Satan. Start accepting responsibilities. Spiritually grow and mature.
By doing so, you are preparing yourself for the Kingdom of Yahweh!
