📅 The Cost of Sin – Daily Bible Reading

Today’s reading: Leviticus 1:1-2

The Cost of Sin

We read in Leviticus 1:1-2:

1 Now the LORD called to Moses, and spoke to him from the tabernacle of meeting, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD…

If you try to read Leviticus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, you will soon see how making sacrifices was a huge part of the religious system of Israel.

We read about burnt offering, grain offering, peace offering, sin offering, trespass offering, and so much more.

If there’s one thing that this teaches us, it is this:

Sin is a serious matter to God.

No matter how our society today ignores God’s laws, breaking them, and throwing them away, sin is sin and it comes with a great penalty.

As we start reading the book of Leviticus (which is actually an inaccurate name of the book), we read about various types of sacrifices.

Sacrificing animals is not new to Israel. In fact, it has been practiced even during the time of Adam and Eve. Ever since sin came to the world, there has been a need to make sacrifices to God.

It is impossible to keep the law of God perfectly. Yahweh knows this and thus, He commanded that a sacrificial system should be in place.

However, we know that “it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4). The sacrifices made in the past were a reminder of the greatest sacrifice that will happen — the sacrifice made by Yahshua.

We need to realize the seriousness of sin. Sin destroys us physically and spiritually. It separates us from Yahweh. Sin ultimately leads to death.

Think about it for a second: sin was so serious that Yahshua, who is a God, needed to become a human being. He stooped down so low just to reach frail and rebellious human beings.

To redeem us from sin, Christ died for us and paid the penalty of sin. He died on our behalf.

Sin is costly and we must remember that every time we are tempted to sin and when we actually sin. May we see the seriousness of each sin that we have in our lives. Be it small or big, sin leads to death and it costs the precious life of the Son of Yahweh.

This should behoove us to repent of our sins, change our ways, and strive to live a sinless life.
