📅 Den of thieves – Daily Bible Reading

Today’s reading: Matthew 21:12-13

Den of thieves

We read in Matthew 21:12-13:

12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of thieves.’ ”

When we read about how the temple turned into a commercial business area, we might easily think that this surely will not happen today.

Yet, we see how churches today have become a big business.

We especially see this in megachurches where the success of their ministry is based on the numbers —- numbers in their membership and income.

Indeed, some churches now have become a den of thieves, led by people who are more concerned about their pockets than the souls of their members.

The church doesn’t have to have merchandise, goods, and services obviously laid out on their doorsteps, but when we turn our religion into business, we become guilty of making God’s house into a den of thieves.

Is your church turning into a den of thieves?
