Today’s reading: Exodus 2:1-3

Do your part

We read in Exodus 2:1-3:

1 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

Can you imagine living in a time when your child will be killed simply because he was born? Many women had lost their children because of the evil of the Egyptian Pharaoh.

When our society and even the government become evil, we can do everything that we can and let Yahweh do the rest. We see Jochebed, the mother of Moses, doing her part in saving her son.

When Moses’ mother put her in the basket and let him float, she was actually letting go and letting God.

She was putting Moses’ future in God’s hand.

She did what she thought to be the only solution. He placed Moses in a tiny basket and let it float down the river.

This is where Yahweh steps in.

When you do your part, God will do His.

He caused the basket to float just at the right time when the Pharaoh’s daughter was in the river. Not only that but Jochebed was hired and paid to take care of her son!

To make things even astounding, Moses became a prince in Egypt and learned a lot from the greatest empire in his day.

It’s quite astonishing to read about the turn of events in Moses’ life.

For some, this may sound unrealistic or simply a coincidence.

But for us, we know for certain that this is the work of God.

Yes, we surely need to trust and be faithful to the Almighty.

Nevertheless, we must also do our part in the process.

Again, this might be a cliche, but let me say it:

Do your best and God will do the rest.
