Thanking God on Thanksgiving Day

Why you should be thankful

Happy Thanksgiving Day everyone!

While we should be thankful every day of the year, it is wonderful to have a day within a year set aside for Thanksgiving.

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day would be on November 25, the fourth Thursday of November.

In our country, the Philippines, we don’t have such a day. However, in our church group, we have a tradition to keep it as well in November, usually, the fourth Friday, at the same time that we will have our Sabbath dinner.

Throughout the past few years, Thanksgiving Day has become a more secular rather than a religious celebration. It has become a day about football, partying, food, and getting together with friends and family.

You would be pleasantly surprised if you hear God on Thanksgiving Day.

That’s why, friends, I would like to remind you about the true essence of being thankful.

On Thanksgiving Day and of course, on all days of the year, let us not forget to appreciate the Giver and not just the gift.

Let us remember the true Source of the blessings that we have.

Let us not simply say, “thank you.”

But let us also say, “Thank you, Heavenly Father.”

It’s good to appreciate the blessings, but it is much better to appreciate the Giver.

  1. Is celebrating thanksgiving biblical? Please provide scripture that God commanded us to celebrate or observe this holiday. Just like you said, christmas, halloween and easter are all man made holiday. Same thing with thanksgiving.

    • Hi BhelaiM,

Why do you think I give thanks to God and not keep Christmas, halloween, and Easter? Where did you read or seen me say that all man-made traditions and holidays are evil?

      • Giving thanks to God and celebrating thanksgiving are two different things. You said that christmas, halloween and easter are not biblical that’s why christians should not celebrate them. Thet are not in the bible. How about celebrating thanksgiving is it in the bible? You said that the early christians are not celebrating these christmas, halloween and easter. The apostles did mot celebrate these as well. What about thanksgiving? Are the early christians and the apostles celebrate this? That’s very inconsistent.

      • Hi BhelaiM,

Is that what you teach in your church? That you don’t celebrate anything that is in the Bible? Because last time I checked, that’s not what I teach or what the church group I belong to teach.

There’s a HUGE difference between Thanksgiving Day and xmas, halloween, and easter, which originated in pagan way of worship.

Here’s what we must know: we can keep human tradition and celebration as long as they don’t go against God’s clear commandments.

The Bible calls the pagan way of worship as an abomination. It’s up to you which one you want to keep.

        Happy Thanksgiving to you!

        Regards,
        Joshua

      • Why should we teach, observe or celebrate an event in our church if it is not in the bible. Jesus said “teach them all that i have taught you” and i believe what Jesus have taught are enough. Why should we add the teachings of men in our church? Like christmas and easter, thanksgiving holiday is also rooted in paganism. You despise christians who celebrate christmas and easter but you invite and encourage christians to celebrate thanksgiving? That’s hypocrisy and another false teaching.

      • Hi BhelaiM,

I would like to know more about thanksgiving as having pagan roots. Thanks for bringing that one up. I’ll do my research about its origin.

        Regards,
        Joshua
