A Christian’s attitude toward money, riches, and wealth should be according to the Bible. A Christian must have the same perspective as how God view riches.
So, how should a Christian view money? Here’s my take.
1. Money is NOT the root of evil.
The Bible is often misquoted that sometimes, it is almost laughable to hear people saying that the Bible condemns money.
The truth is the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. By having a covetous attitude and having a greater love of money than your family, friends, and God, you are leading yourself to destruction.
I Timothy 6:10 tells us:
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
2. It is God who gives us the power to acquire wealth.
We must NEVER forget the source of our blessings.
Deuteronomy 8:18 tells us:
“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”
It is God who gives us the talent, ability, and health to acquire wealth.
It is NOT by our own strength that we become wealthy. Thus, at the end of the day, we must always give thanks to God and give Him credit for all the blessings that we have.
3. Money isn’t forever.
Many people commit the fatal mistake of thinking that their wealth will last forever. Material success has been so intoxicating that they are deceived into thinking that they have it all.
King Solomon, the wisest and probably, the richest man during his time, contemplated on this vital topic. He wrote in Proverbs 23:5:
Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.
With this in mind, it is important to remember to always prepare for the rainy days. Good times will never last and with life being unpredictable, it is important to put our confidence in God rather than in our money.
4. God gives us wealth to do good works.
Why do you want to be rich? You should have the right answer for that question.
If you want to be rich just so you can spend it all to yourself and selfishly hoard them, then you are missing the whole point of being materially blessed by God.
We read:
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (II Corinthians 9:8).
God blesses us so that we can also bless others. He wants to use us to be a fountain of blessings.
5. We don’t own anything
We must be reminded that we don’t own anything in this world. In fact, we are just stewards of the things God has given us. We are just the caretakers.
We read in Psalms 24:1:
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.”
If we have this kind of attitude toward money, it would be easier for us to let them go of our wealth and share them to others. God is the rightful owner of all things and thus, it is only right for us to give back to him and to others.

These are just some of the attitude and perspective that we should have when it comes to viewing our wealth and material possession. Having this kind of mentality will help you appreciate more God’s blessings and use them according to God’s plan and purpose.
