What does the Bible say about Vaccines?

In this post, let us take a look at the truth behind vaccines and what the Bible tells us about this hotly debated topic!

One of the most controversial topics in the world today is vaccines. While the medical and scientific field generally would endorse vaccines as an effective way to fight off infections, there are those who oppose its use.

As a Christian, which side should we stand? Should we vaccinate our child or not? Most importantly, what does God or the Bible teach about vaccines?

What are vaccines?

The World Health Organization described vaccines this way:

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent diseases. A vaccine helps the body’s immune system to recognize and fight pathogens like viruses or bacteria, which then keeps us safe from the diseases they cause. Vaccines protect against more than 25 debilitating or life-threatening diseases, including measles, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, meningitis, influenza, tetanus, typhoid and cervical cancer.

As you can see, the concept behind vaccines is to inject the body with weakened or dead disease-causing microorganisms.

The aim is for the body to establish immunity against these microbes. So, when stronger and more virulent microbes attack, the body can be more prepared in fighting them off.

In theory, that’s how vaccines work. Vaccinations are designed to help the body produce antigens or antibodies against a wide range of diseases.

Here’s a video that I think worth watching. Again, I know there are two sides of the issue here and it is more likely that you have already heard what the proponents of vaccine have to say. You may also check why some people opt not to get vaccinated.

What does the Bible teach about vaccines?

Obviously, the words vaccine and vaccination aren’t found in the Bible. These are modern medical concepts that were used and popularized way back in the 1940s.

The Bible is specifically silent on the use of vaccines. It does not promote or prohibit its use. However, this does not mean that we should not do our part in exploring the pros and cons when it comes to vaccinations.

The Bible tells us:

“Test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

We also need to be like the Bereans (Acts 17:11). Though it was the Scripture that they were studying, we can also apply the same principle when it comes to examining what others are telling us.

Is it worth the shot?

The answer to this question depends on who you listen to. Vaccine advocates will tell you that it is beneficial while anti-vaxxers will tell you they don’t. With so many self-proclaimed experts out there, it’s really difficult to sift the truth from lies.

Perhaps, it is worth noting why some people are against vaccines. Here are some of them:

  1. Some of the most common vaccines were produced and cultured in aborted fetal cell lines.
  2. Hepa B vaccines are designed to combat hepatitis B, a sexually transmitted disease. Babies don’t have sex and are not at risk of Hepa B and thus, no need to give them Hepa B shots.
  3. Vaccines produce adverse reactions.
  4. Some vaccines include blood products of biblically unclean animals.
  5. Vaccines contain harmful substances that include mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum, antibiotics, gelatin, and monosodium glutamate. (Pro-vaxxers argue that these substances are kept at a minimal and safe level in vaccines.)
  6. Pharmaceutical companies are more concerned about money-making and not really after the general welfare of the public.
  7. Vaccines, especially those new ones, didn’t undergo proper testing.
  8. Naturally boosting the immune system is still considered as the best method of improving health.

I found a video on YouTube from AsapSCIENCE titled, “Debunking Anti-Vaxxers.” To see the two sides of argument, I recommend you watch this as well:

Biblical principles to remember

There’s no doubt there are two sides to the coin when it comes to vaccines. It is up to you to make the decision whether to get a shot or not.

I’m the first one to admit that I’m not an expert when it comes to the topic of vaccines. I’m not an expert when it comes to the perceived benefits or harmful effects of this medical practice. However, I’m willing to learn and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’ll do my own research and see for myself whether vaccines are good or not.

As of now, I believe it is important to share with you biblical principles you need to remember whether you should use vaccines or not. Here are some of them:

  1. The whole world is deceived by Satan (Revelation 12:9). This means that the majority is not always right. Don’t readily trust people based on what they say.
  2. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19-20). You have the duty to take care of it. Thus, you shouldn’t simply let any foreign materials or microbes get inside your body.
  3. To receive vaccines or not is thankfully not primarily a salvation issue. God will not prevent you from entering His Kingdom for having or not having vaccines.
  4. Our life is in the hands of the Most High (Job 12:10). It is not vaccines, doctors, pharmaceutical companies who will ultimately save you. Though we need to do our part, we must trust the Almighty above all.

There’s no doubt: the use of vaccines has been controversial to many people. It is up to you to do your own research and see for yourself the truth behind vaccines. Don’t let people tell you what it is, how it can benefit your body, or whether it could really prevent illnesses or not.

The reason I wrote this blog is not to convince you whether to get vaccines or not, but rather for you to seek out the truth.

May this article be a wake-up call to you. May our Heavenly Father bless our quest for the truth.

  1. Thank you for making a simple easy to understand presentation. Even the church is divided on this issue.

      • It might be a salvation issue. Being saved means being saved from the world. If someone is saved from the world , with all of its power of deception and lies and so forth and so on, then they won’t do what the enemy of Christ says any more. Instead, they become willingly and joyfully martyrs for their faith in Jesus, willing at once and always to die instead of deny Him. Like sheep led daily to slaughter, so are we who are saved. Ekklesia. Born again ones.

      • Hi J. Elohim, if your conscience tells you not to get vaccinated, then you should follow your conscience. If after doing all your research and you know that vaccine is not good, then don’t get vaccinated. However, if you need to travel to do the work of God and you are stopped from doing so because you don’t get vaccinated, what do you do?

    • Hi Liz,

It is a possibility. However, I wouldn’t be dogmatic about it. The important thing we must do right now is to prepare for that coming time of persecution and stay steadfast in what we believe.

      Regards,
      Joshua

  2. The Bible does speak against sorcery which in its original language is pharmakea, where pharmaceuticals derives its name. Are we seeing sorcery pushed on us through mandated vaccines?

  3. The scriptures specifically tell us that Medicine and Physicians are for the sick, not the healthy. Vaccinations, or any medicinal drug, should not be introduced into a healthy body.

  4. I personally am against most vaccinations. I never went for flu shots. I used to get the flu every year up to my 40s but always recovered. However, during those years I ate the Standard American Diet including tons of sugar for cereal , coffee and cold drinks. When I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea , I started using a cpap machine to breathe at night. Then surprisingly, I stopped getting the flu. I have not got it for over 20 years now. However, I give up my sugar addiction until like 18 years later and contacted diabetes II. The silver lining was it taught me that in addition to following God’s meat and health laws in the Old Testament, that we also must eat wholesome foods and avoid processed foods as much as we can. God gave us a wonderful immune system that works if we obey Him.

Come Covid, I noticed my family and I could not travel without restrictions nor enter other countries unless we had proof of vaccination or tested negative. So my wife and i decided to take the Pfizer vaccination, not because we trusted it, but because we wanted to keep God’s Holy Days –the Feast of Tabernacles–with brethren overseas.

Now , we hear that the Pfizer vaccination wanes in its effeciancy from 95% to maybe 50% over a few months time and the medical community is pushing for booster shots for all (as of todays date).Today I heard a prominent doctor on the news state: We may need vaccinations every 6 months as we monitor the spread of covid. I am relunctant to accept that. And, in todays news, Austria is mandating that ALL of her citizens to get vaccinated and is restricting unvaccinated citizens from restuarants , public places and such. I am reminded of prophecy where the Beast power will prevent citizens from buying or selling unless they bow to him, his government , or his mandates. Joshua, could you comment on this? What if down the road, scientists find that the vaccination is harmful to humans in the long term! Then we would have been deceived. Thanks for your article which was balanced!!

  5. I noticed in this article that one video was removed for violating Utube’s terms of service but the Debunked video remains intact. The censorship that is going on is unreal. What happened to freedom of speech in this country?

  6. When the Covid virus hit, I decided not to get the shot because my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. I was already drinking an herbal tea because I had another incurable virus and I knew that it would be effective against Covid. I have heard that some of the people that got the shot got sick from Covid.
