How can I convince my atheist friends to become Christians?

A lot of Christians, out of zeal and passion for sharing the Word of God, commit the mistake of pushing their beliefs to others. When it comes to sharing the Gospel to the atheists, how should we go about it?

How can you convince a non-believer to become a believer?

You can try by giving them pieces of evidence of God’s existence but NEVER force them.

To help strengthen your faith and learn how to prove God’s existence, you might want to read this awesome blog entitled, “The 10 Best Books that Prove Christianity is True.”

You need to first discern whether that person is willing to listen and learn or not. Because if not, you will simply go against Christ’s instruction:

Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces (Matthew 7:6).

You need to remember that no matter how hard you try, no matter what proof you present, no matter how good your arguments might be, if they consciously and deliberately choose NOT to believe in God, then you really can’t do much about it.

Remember that the carnal mind is enmity against God (Romans 8:7). It is hostile against anything of God.

For this reason, even if you present indisputable proof, you can’t really convince them UNLESS God opens their mind.

Bear in mind that it is NOT us who calls people.

We read John 6:44:

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

You see, it is never our job to convert people.

Our job is to simply preach the Gospel.

It is our job to sow the seed.

It is based on God’s will and purpose whether He will give the increase or not.

In His infinite wisdom, He is only selecting a few people now to be part of His first harvest.

Even Christ, when He was here on earth, didn’t try to save as many people as possible.

What He did was just to preach and prepare those people who believed in Him.

In the same way, we can only preach and let God call people.

It is up to God whom He will work with.

The important thing is we do our part in preaching the Gospel through our words and actions.

We simply have to let our light shine so that people will glorify our Heavenly Father.

  1. Hi Joshua,
I hope you and family/friends are faring well in these difficult times.

I agree 100%. A forced conversion is no conversion at all!

Evangelism means spreading the Word. What better way is there than living the Word with your whole being to where God’s Light will shine through you:

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven…Matthew 5: 14-16

    Be Well..Mark

    • Hi Mark,

Thanks for your well wishes. I hope the same thing for you! Praying for God’s divine protection for you and your family.

Yes, you’re right. I read a quote that says, “Sometimes, the only Bible people will read is your life.”

So, our example is truly important and shining as lights is no doubt part of our Christian calling.

      Regards and stay safe,
      Joshua
