10 Best Lessons We Learn from the Coronavirus Pandemic

Did you know that the coronavirus pandemic can teach us a lot of spiritual lessons? These lessons can help us understand God’s purpose in our lives and see the greater picture of His plan. Read on to learn more!

Everything in this life has a lesson to teach us and that includes the pandemic we are having right now.

As dreadful as it is, the coronavirus disease teaches us valuable lessons about life — both physical and spiritual.

Sometimes, the greatest lessons are found from the greatest problems.

That’s why I strongly believe that the coronavirus pandemic or COVID-19 could also teach us lessons.

Could it be that God, in His infinite wisdom and unending love, is allowing this to happen to remind us about the important things in life?

That’s why in this post, let me share with you 10 of the best spiritual lessons coronavirus disease is teaching.

1. People’s action can have a global effect

Because of the artificial borders humans have put around the globe, it is easy to forget that the actions of one country could have a detrimental effect on the rest of the world.

Individually, this should teach us a crucial truth:

The actions we take do not only affect us, but also the people around us.

With this in mind, we need to think twice when we are about to commit a sin.

The sins that we commit will not only affect us but also others.

Sad, but true.

A lot of people have lost their lives or have been harmed, just because of the stupid decisions made of others.

Now, we see how a disease could easily spread throughout the world.

What the Chinese people do could affect not just their nation, but also us.

We see that the coronavirus didn’t just stay in their community, but it spread to over 160 countries.

When it comes to diseases, there’s no border.

The virus does not need our permission when it approaches our doorsteps.

So, remember, when making a decision, don’t simply think about how it will affect you, but also how your decision will affect your family, community, country, and even the whole world.

2. We need to take care of our health

When we are healthy, it is so easy to take our life for granted.

We don’t get enough sleep; we don’t exercise regularly; we don’t eat nutritious food; we engage in various vices; and we don’t observe proper hygiene.

The coronavirus teaches us that no one is invincible — that everyone can get the virus.

It does not play favoritism.

It does not discriminate.

It affects both the young and old, male and female, rich and poor.

Virtually, no one is exempted.

That’s why we must take care of our health as much as possible.

Taking care of our health is not just an act of love for yourself, but also to others.

3. Violating God’s laws bring about suffering and problems

As the spread of coronavirus continues, an investigation was conducted.

It was later found out that the coronavirus disease started in a seafood market in Wuhan.

This market does not only sell seafood, but also wild and exotic animals — not as pets, but as food as well.

Some people in Wuhan traditionally eat a wide range of animals which include bats, snakes, wolves, dogs, cats, and rats, among others.

If only the Chinese people and even all the people in the world observe the food laws of God, then we would have fewer diseases and pandemics.

We would not have this problem.

God’s food laws made a distinction between clean and unclean meat — those that are fit for human consumption and those that are not.

In Leviticus 11, you will see a description and list of food that we are allowed to eat. You would be surprised that God actually forbade us not to eat pork, shrimps, and crabs as well!

This can be a huge topic, so I would like to advise you to read, “5 Compelling Reasons You Should Also Observe God’s Food Law.”

Now, going back to my point, it is true that if we break God’s laws, it will break us.

In this case, the law of clean and unclean meat has been violated and thus, we are having this pandemic.

The same is true with other sins.

All sins are a result of a violation of God’s law and every violation comes with dire consequences.

As you look around us, all problems and troubles are caused by breaking God’s laws.

4. Our society is fragile

In the past few decades, mankind has done its best to sustain a peaceful and prosperous world.

While we fail in a lot of aspects, our generation has seen an unprecedented level of wealth and technological advancements.

However, in spite of all this, we could see how fragile our society is.

It only takes one pandemic to put the world into a halt.

All of a sudden, we see people can easily become afraid and anxious.

We see how businesses have closed down and how many people have depended on the artificial system of sustenance.

Instead of us depending on the food we grow, we have depended on the money we earn.

As a result, a lot of people would be starving and dying once commercialism has stopped.

This leads us to the next point.

5. We have become too materialistic

This world is focused on the way of get rather than the way of give.

The society, with the help of popular media, is telling us that the only way to be happy is to get the latest car, the latest smartphone model, the latest laptop, the most advanced TV, the most beautiful clothes, the biggest house, and a lot more.

As a result, we have become too materialistic.

Instead of chasing what matters most in our lives, our daily schedule is filled with work and the pursuit of material wealth.

No wonder this world is all messed up.

Now that the coronavirus has forced people to stop working and simply live with the basics, we are seeing how liberating it is not to be too preoccupied with the cares of this world.

We are now seeing families spending more time in their homes because of the lockdown and community quarantine.

We are seeing more people enjoying gardening, exercising, and talking with friends because of the free time they have.

We are seeing how much we have neglected our homes and now, we are building it again.

I think that’s one of the good sides of having this outbreak.

6. Our focus should be spiritual

When we take our focus from the material, we need to focus on the spiritual.

II Corinthians 4:18 reminds us:

While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The coronavirus has taken our focus away from the physical.

By closing a lot of sporting events and social gatherings, it has taken our focus away from the athletes, celebrities, and material wealth.

Now, we have more time to pray, study the Bible, and learn more about God’s way of life.

7. Our lives are in God’s hands

We are advised to do the necessary precautions for us to avoid getting infected by the virus.

We need to observe social distancing, wash our hands, stay at home, and avoid unnecessary travels.

While all these things are good and I recommend that you follow them, we need to remember that in the final analysis, our lives are in the hands of God.

No matter how much food, disinfectants, and toilet paper you hoard, it is God who will ultimately protect you.

Though we must be physically prepared, it is MORE important to be spiritually prepared.

God’s message is clear:

We need to return to Him.

This world has offered us a lot of good things and pleasures to the point that we forget about God.

But the coronavirus reminds us that all the good things this world could ever give, even if you combine them all, are nothing compared to what God has offered us — eternal life.

8. We need not to worry

The world is not only plagued with coronavirus disease, but it is also plagued with fear, panic, and anxiety.

Because of how fast COVID-19 spread, it is not difficult to see why so many people are afraid for their lives.

Thankfully, for us who have put our trust and faith in the Almighty, we need not worry.

The Apostle Paul urges us:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6).

We must not be anxious.

We must not worry.

Instead, we must pray and thank God for all the good things He has done.

And when we do this, what will happen? In verse 7 we read:

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

We will have the peace of God in our lives.

What’s so neat about this peace is that it is going to guard our hearts and minds against all worries and fears.

So, stop worrying, but start praying and getting closer to God.

9. The outbreak serves as a warning

Let us not forget about the message of this coronavirus disease.

If you read Bible prophecies, there will be more like this disease — only, they would be more virulent and deadlier.

In fact, in Revelation 6, we read about the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

It tells us that due to religious deception, war, famine, and plagues, ¼ of the world’s population will be wiped out.

Now, biblical prophecies are not there to scare you, but to serve as a warning.

We need to seek God in our lives today while we still have the chance.

The Prophet Isaiah tells us:

Seek the LORD while He may be found,

Call upon Him while He is near.

Let the wicked forsake his way,

And the unrighteous man his thoughts;

Let him return to the LORD,

And He will have mercy on him;

And to our God,

For He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6-7).

The outbreak should not chase us away from God, but let it draw us closer to our Creator.

10. We need to yearn for God’s Kingdom

One final lesson I want to share with you is the need for us to yearn for God’s Kingdom.

Ever since the world has fallen into sin, it has also fallen into futility and it “groans and labors with birth pangs together until now” (Romans 8:22).

This is the main reason that we have diseases and pandemics.

Coronavirus disease is only one of the thousands of diseases that plague humanity.

For this reason, we are to pray always that God’s kingdom is established here on earth as soon as possible (Matthew 6:10).

Human beings, through thousands of years, have proven that we are NOT able to solve our own problems.

If we are to solve it, we are to look unto God.

We can’t get rid of ailments, war, and greed on our own.

It is only God’s Kingdom and His rule that will bring everlasting peace, prosperity, and good health to all of mankind.

That’s why, we are to always pray, “Thy Kingdom come.”

Final words

These are just some of the best spiritual lessons that Christians should learn from coronavirus disease.

There’s no doubt: the coronavirus pandemic is such a big problem and it brings a lot of pain to many people.

However, we must not waste the opportunity for us to learn vital lessons from this pandemic.

With that said, I pray that all of us would come out safe and healthy from this hour of trial.

Most importantly, may we become more spiritually strong and mature in the process.
