Why Don’t People Believe in God?

Here’s a blog that explores some of the reasons people become non-believers of God.

Let me give you a quick answer:

People don’t believe in God because they have sins that they don’t want to repent of.

You see, it is not the lack of proof that makes people atheists.

Here’s what the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:20–21:

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are CLEARLY seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Here’s what these verses are saying:

  1. The creation itself testifies the existence of God. A lot of respectable and honest scientists now are rejecting the theory of evolution because it has a lot of faults.
  2. People knew of the existence of God but they refuse to acknowledge it. They became futile in their thoughts and their hearts were darkened.

If we take an honest look at science, we know that it doesn’t contradict the Bible but rather it perfectly complements it.

The problem is that the carnal mind is enmity against God (Romans 8:7).

It is naturally hostile against God and whatever that is of God.

Thus, people would rather reject God than to change their sinful ways.

They wouldn’t like a higher authority to be telling them what to do and what not to do.

They would want their own ways.

They think that God restricts their freedom when in reality, God is setting boundaries so they live a happy, fulfilling, and blessed life.

Because people would like to continue living in sin, they would simply turn a blind eye and convince themselves that God doesn’t exist.

They would rather live a life completely free of any accountability to God.

When they do that, they won’t feel bad about the sinful things they do.

No more guilt feeling. Their conscience won’t bother them anymore.

So, that’s the reason why they would rather give up their sins than to accept God’s existence.

Of course, there are other reasons and I just want to explain this one point.

This is a huge topic, but if you want to strengthen your faith by knowing how to prove God’s existence, I highly recommend you read any of the books listed in this article, “The 10 Best Books that Prove Christianity is True.”

P.S. Do you want to experience the life-changing power of the Bible? If yes, read my eBook entitled, “The Power of His Word: How to Experience the Life-Changing Power of God and Become the Christian You Always Wanted to Be!

    • Hi Sweetwhispersinmyyear,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, it is true. The Bible calls those who don’t believe in God as fools because though they can plainly see the evidence of God’s existence, they would still willingly choose not to believe.

  1. I’m atheist but I don’t call others who have different believes fools or foolish. Also, I don’t have sooo many sins nor I do live inmoral life. And yes, I still feel guilty if I do something wrong, even though I don’t believe in God.
