Discovering the God behind the title, “Most High,” would unlock our deeper understanding to who God is. Whether you know who the Most High God is or not, this blog is for you. It will show you EXACTLY, without any shadow of a doubt, who the Most High is straight from your Bible!

The true God, whose name is Yahweh, is known by various titles. Among them is the Most High. Perhaps, you are asking, “Why is this topic important?” Well, the Bible tells us that our understanding of God is what eternal life is all about.

We read:

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth” (John 17:3).

Our eternal life lies on knowing the Father and His Son, Yahshua (popularly known as Jesus Christ).

Part of knowing God is knowing the titles He used and what it shows us about His will and purpose in our lives. One of the titles we read in the Bible is the Most High.

Once you understand who the Most High is and this understanding is deeply inculcated in your mind, you get a better grasp of God’s nature as you read the words, “Most High,” in the Bible.

Now, if in case you already know who the Most High is, this will still be an excellent article that you should read as you will learn how to prove who the Most High is using the Bible.

So, if you’re ready, let’s dive in!

Who is the Most High God?

Who is the Most High God?

What is the title Most High?

The Most High is a title of God mentioned in the Bible. It is written in slightly different ways. Sometimes, it is rendered as God Most High and LORD Most High. Of course, in the original Hebrew Text, it isn’t LORD Most High, but YAHWEH Most High.

The God Most High came from the Hebrew word, “El Elyon.” In Strong’s Dictionary, it is number H5945. Strong defines it as, “an elevation, that is, (adjectively) lofty (comparatively); as title, the Supreme: – (Most, on) high (-er, -est), upper (-most).”

The Father is Greater than I

So, who is this God Being? Who is the Most High God? Let’s read what Yahshua has to say in John 14:28:

You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

In this verse, Yahshua clearly stated that God the Father is greater than Him.

In what sense is God the Father greater than Yahshua?

God the Father is greater in role and position. Though the Father and Yahshua are perfectly united in thought, words, and actions, there’s a hierarchy in God’s realm. Like in a father and son relationship, it is the father who is greater than the son.

Thus, it is not difficult to see why Yahshua said in John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Now, this verse is not saying that Yahshua isn’t God, but rather, He is pointing out the greater authority of His Father in Heaven.

So, that establishes it. There’s no doubt, what the Bible shows us, that God the Father is GREATER than Yahshua in respect of authority.

Now, we come back to our question, “Who is the Most High God?”

The title, “Most High” denotes of the highest authority. There can be no other God Being who is most high. Therefore, the only logical conclusion that we can have is that the Most High God is no other than the Father Himself.

God the Father as the God of Jesus Christ (Yahshua)

Another proof that God the Father is the Most High is the fact that He is considered as the God of Yahshua. You would rarely hear this from the pulpit, but there are Bible verses that refers to the Father as the God of Yahshua.

We read the following verses:

Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’” (John 20:17)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (I Peter 1:3).

“That you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:6).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).

The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying” (II Corinthians 11:31).

As you can see from these verses, you can clearly read, without any doubt, that God the Father is greater and higher in position than Yahshua. You don’t hear this much in mainstream Christianity because obviously, their Trinity doctrine would be questioned. (Be sure to read, Shocking Truths about the Trinity doctrine.)

The Bible verses I just shared to you confirm that God the Father is indeed the God Most High.

Melchizedek as the High Priest of the Most High

Another proof that the Most High God is the Father is understanding who Melchizedek is.

We read in Genesis 14:18 that Abraham was ministered by Melchizedek:

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.

I won’t go into deeper details since this can be a good topic for another blog, but let me just give you a quick overview.

Melchizedek is the God who would later become Yahshua or Jesus Christ. This is clearly stated in Hebrews 7:1-3:

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,” without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.

Since Melchizedek is the High Priest of the Most High God, then we can logically conclude that the Most High God can’t be Yahshua or Jesus Christ.

Yahshua can’t be a High Priest to Himself, but rather to His Father. The Father, can’t also be a Priest to Himself.

This is another clear proof that the Most High God is no other than the Father.

With this in mind, let us now go through the Bible and see the different roles and actions of our Heavenly Father by studying the title, Most High God.

Yahshua as the Son of the Most High

In the New Testament, during the announcement of Christ’s birth, the angel proclaimed:

“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David” (Luke 1:32).

The Son of the Highest here is rendered as Son of the Most High in other Bible translations which include the NIV, NLT, ESV, NASB, Berean Study Bible, and Contemporary English Bible, to name a few.

Obviously, the verse is telling us that the Most High or the Highest in this verse refers to the Father. Christ can’t be a Son to Himself.

In Luke 1:35, it confirms who the Messiah is the Son of:

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. “

Again, the Highest in this verse is also translated as the Most High in other Bible translation.

You will also read in Luke 1:76, part of Zecharias’ prophecy:

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest.”

The Highest here is also translated as the Most High.

There is also another instance where Yahshua was referred to be the Son of the Most High. In the incident where Yahshua met a demon-possessed man, what He heard was very clear in Mark 5:7:

When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” (See also Luke 8:28).

From these verses, Yahshua and His followers recognize that the Most High God is no other than God the Father.

Conclusion

From the verses and explanations mentioned above, the undeniable fact is clear. Yahweh, our Heavenly Father, is known as the Most High. The title Most High is given to Yahweh and it is a title only applied to Him and not to Yahshua.

The Most High title gives us a new perspective on God’s nature. This title shows us that He reigns supreme in the entire universe and no one is above Him.

Since He is the Most High and He sits in His majestic throne, He rules over all. This eternal and powerful Being is the same Being who seeks a close relationship with us.

Now that you know who the Most High is, every time you read that title in the Bible, you will have a better idea whom the scripture is talking about.

I hope knowing how powerful God moves you in awe and great reverence and respect to His Name. At the same time, I pray that this knowledge would allow you to know God more and foster a closer relationship with Him.

  1. I like this strong analysis. There are three persons in the Godhead. They are United as One Supreme God, and they work together. However, they have varied functions.

    • Hi Pius!

Thanks for your reply. However, there’s no three persons in the Godhead. Only God the Father and Yahshua. The Holy Spirit is the power of the God family. It is not another persona. There are just so many scripture that goes against the Trinity doctrine that we can only logically come to the conclusion that it is a false doctrine.

I know this can be shocking, but it is the truth. If you need more materials on this topic, just let me know.

      Regards,

  2. I Thank you for touching on this subject matter. As a devout Christian and Ordained minister of God , Most High, I come across many Christians that are (Please keep in mind that I don’t mean to offend any person’s whatsoever) Ignorant of this fact and many other similar matters to be frank. As an ordained minister part of my duty is to educate people’s of faith about God Most High,His attributes, His Charge’s, His spoken word contained in the Bible from which much is attributed through Yeshua Himself to His apostle’s and without doubt all his words are most certainly of Divine providence originating from God Most High to His only begotten Son Yeshua manifested through the form of the Holy Spirit, but alot of Christian’s and of course Catholics do not see it this way!. They vehemently disagree and adhere to the notion that Yeshua and God Most High are One in the same as a Trinity which I do not agree with. I do believe that there is a Father in God Most High and His Son in Yeshua and I believe theres A Holy Spirit by which some Godly individuals are blessed with but I don’t agree that they are all one entity in the same for The Lord thy God is omnipresent and if He wishes He could manifest in any form He prefers and never leave his throne amidst the reikia. To be honest I must admit that I once had the same train of thought when I was younger because of my upbringing in the church this is what I was told and it anger’s me a little due to the point that there are many more as myself who are currently being told the same Psuedo information, thus endangering the sanctity of their soul’s in the here after by being lead astray from the truth but even though,,, I’ve come to accept that the church and the pastors/reverends that are teaching this pseudo information are not trying to deceive anyone, they commit to this doctrine as undeniable truth because this is what there spiritual teachers taught them and those in their family before them. In essence some think it’s a So called harmless deception but I don’t view it as so . I see it as a deception that’s been embedded in the mind’s of the father’s of our Catholic church almost since it’s inception by ha satan himself as to lead men’s heart’s astray from the truth of God Most High and His only begotten Son Yeshua and if you pay attention to not only the above subject but of all the deeds our modern day catholic church is implementing in our current times it should shock you to your core , ex: ” the consent to gay marriage, which thus condones a man laying with another man, and the same goes for a woman likewise, the changing of written words of prophecy and our Lord’s Prayer is out right blasphemy, as in the lion shall lay with the lamb is now the wolf shall lay with the lamb, and in The Lords Prayer the powers that be also changed the word trespasses into debts, this to me is unacceptable, and there are many more examples of this and the gradual falling away of the church from God’s way’s, mankind has allowed the church to be infiltrated by the adversary
without doubt but were we not warned by Yeshua to beware of false prophets and what to expect in the time’s of tribulations when the day of judgement is near? All of these acts are undeniably linked in my opinion, thus for the Godly and Upright it is the Good News that all the Faithful await. In the form of The second coming of our Lord and Savior Yeshua, Rev 22:20 , ” I am coming soon and my reward’s I have brought with me to give unto everyman according to his deeds” Amen,, Also this parable of wisdom is crystal clear now considering the situation which the Bible is undergoing, ”Thy words I have hid in mine heart so that I might not sin against thee” Amen,, Thank you for your information hidden in plain sight for all to witness, if they only would, may Adonai Bless You Always, Peace be with you, Sincerely
    Ordm. Peter McCallister
