I have a confession to make.

I am a forgetful person.

Not so much of a confession right? But I’m sure, I’m not alone.

You probably have forgotten something today. Whether you are young or old, forgetfulness is a reality in life.

No wonder the Bible tells us to remember a lot of things!

There are just things that we must remember and the Bible mentioned them. We are to remember these things to ensure that we live this life according to God’s will and purpose.

In this post, let me share with you 20 things that we must remember according to the Bible. Read on to discover what these things are and why we are to remember them!

20 Important Things to Remember According To The Bible

What are the things that God wants us to remember?

No. 1: Remember how God delivered the Israelites

And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place (Exodus 13:3).

Why is it important for us to remember how God delivered Israel? It is because it shows us the power of God. The Israelites were not delivered through their might but by the might of Yah.

The deliverance of the Israelites pictures how we are delivered from the slavery of sin. It portrays our coming out of this world and becoming true followers of Christ.

Today, we are considered spiritual Israelites (Galatians 3:29) who should learn from the past and ensure to never repeat the mistakes of a nation whom God worked with in the past.

No. 2: Remember the Sabbath Day

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God” (Exodus 20:8-10).

Among the commandments of God, the one that starts with the word ‘remember’ is the one that is often forgotten!

Isn’t it amazing when God tells us to remember something, it is also the one we often forget! (Click to tweet!)

The Sabbath day is a sign between God and His people. It points us back to the creation week. Observing the Sabbath reminds us that God is our Father and Creator. The Sabbath reminds us that we all need rest and that our life is more than just an everyday struggle of making a living.

Be sure to read, “Shocking Truths from the Bible: Top 5 Awesome Benefits of Keeping the Sabbath Day”.

No. 3: Remember the Source of our blessings

“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:18).

When we are intoxicated with unbroken success, it is too easy to forget God. When things go smoothly, it seems that God is nowhere to be found in the picture.

As Christians, we must always remember that God is the Source of all our blessings. It is not through our might, intellect, or ability that we have gathered wealth. It is through God’s blessings that we are able to enjoy life and the pleasures it gives.

No. 4: Remember God’s holiness

Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name (Psalm 30:4).

Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name (Psalm 97:12).

The Apostle Peter urges us to be holy because God is holy (I Peter 1:16). When we remember God’s holiness, it behooves us to also pursue holiness.

Being holy means to be set apart for a divine purpose. As we seek holiness, we must do our best to be different from the rest and be a light to the world. It means doing what is good even if it means standing alone.

No. 5: Remember the wonderful works of Yahweh

I will remember the works of the LORD;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old (Psalm 77:11).

Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth (Psalm 105:5)

Remembering the works of God helps us appreciate His creative nature. As we look around us, from the heavens to the seas, we could see God’s handiwork that moves us to worship Him. We can’t help but be filled with wonder and humbleness as we consider how little we are in this vast universe.

The works of God also include the many miracles and goodness He has done in our lives. As we put into remembrance how God has sustained us throughout the years, we also put into mind his perfect character.

Psalm 105:5 adds that we must also remember His judgment. It helps us learn how to make a righteous judgment as well. It shows us how to judge and discern between good and evil.

No. 6: Remember your Creator now

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
Before the difficult days come,
And the years draw near when you say,
“I have no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastes 12:1).

The Bible specifically mentioned that we must remember our Creator – the One who made us and it has to be NOW. This verse is specifically addressed to the youths.

When we are young, full of energy and vitality, it seems that we can do almost anything. We have high hopes and dreams and we have a whole life ahead of us.

What we do in our youth tremendously affect what we are in the future. That’s why the wisest king of Israel beseeched us to make the right decision while we are young. We must dedicate the prime of our years to God.

We are to serve our Creator when we are still young, when we still have the strength to serve Him. It is difficult to serve God when we are already on our deathbed or when we can barely walk.

Serve God now and reap the many benefits of doing so!

No. 7: Remember the wife of Lot

Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 32).

The wife of Lot looked back. While they are fleeing Sodom, Lot could not bear the thought that they are leaving the city, which she has grown to love. Perhaps she has thought of her relatives who were left behind or maybe, the material possession they would lose.

No matter what the reason might be, she did something that they were sternly instructed not to do.

As a Christian today, we must remember Lot’s wife. She has become a memorial of what happens to people who keep on looking back. We ought to endure the race set before us and looking back will slow us down and worst of all, it could prevent us from finishing our race.

Once we have decided to follow God, we must continue until the end.

Be sure to read, “What does it mean to remember Lot’s wife?

No. 8: Remember the sacrifice of Yahshua or Jesus Christ

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19)

And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (I Corinthians 11:24)

Christ told us to commemorate the Passover every year. It is the time when we must reflect on God’s unconditional love to the point that He is willing to give up His only begotten Son.

We partake of the bread and wine, which symbolizes the body and blood of Christ. We do this to remember how He suffered. We must remember as well the price the Father and Yahshua have to pay just to redeem us from the penalty of sin.

No. 9: Remember that the servant is not greater than his lord

Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also (John 15:20).

Many people assume that since Christ suffered for us, we will not suffer anymore. Some would even think that being a Christian means that you will get all the blessings that you want and live a life of comfort. That’s what the main message of the prosperity gospel today!

Jesus’ point here is clear: suffering, problems, and trials are a normal part of a Christian’s life. They are not there to prevent us from getting to the Kingdom, but rather they are there to prepare us for the Kingdom of God.

If Christ was persecuted for standing up for what is right, then it follows that we shall also suffer from doing what is right and good.

No. 10: Remember that it is more blessed to give than to receive

I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” (Acts 20:35)

It is contrary to our human nature that giving is better than getting. In fact, most of us would say that we are blessed when we receive something, right?

However, the teaching of Christ is clear: it is more blessed to give than to receive. While it might be difficult at first, but the way of giving is the only way for this world to thrive and flourish in the long run.

Don’t buy into the message of this world that you will be happier when you have more material possession.

The truth is here to stay: If you want to be happy, you need to make other people happy and eventually, happiness will find its way back to you! (Click to Tweet!)

No. 11: Remember that we are Gentiles in the past

Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:11)

Physically speaking, gentiles are the non-Israelites. However, all those who follow God now are considered spiritual Israelites. Today, we are not strangers anymore from the covenant of promise, but rather we have been grafted to the stock of Israel.

We must remember that we are once gentiles, without having hope. Remember this very fact helps to understand how much was sacrificed just to make salvation available to us. When we remember we were gentiles, we also remember how difficult it is to live a life without God. We appreciate even more what it means to be called the children of our Heavenly Father.

No. 12: Remember that Jesus Christ (Yahshua) was raised from the dead

Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained (II Timothy 2:8-10).

One of the most miraculous proofs of Jesus’ messiahship is His resurrection. Among the many leaders of religion in the world, it is only Christ who was brought back to life!

With Christ’s resurrection, we are also assured of life after death. We have given a glimpse of our future glorious body when we are transformed into literal spiritual beings.

By remembering that Christ has been raised from the dead, our faith is renewed, our hope is fortified, and our strength is invigorated.

No. 13: Remember to avoid useless arguments

Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers” (II Timothy 2:14).

Words are powerful. It can either edify or bring down people. In this reminder, Paul is telling us to avoid useless arguments. In most cases, arguing with the smallest things will only lead to the ruin of the hearers.

Moreover, most arguments are simply an exchange of words that seek to destroy other people instead of understanding them. For this reason, Paul is instructing us to simply avoid them and be a source of edification to others instead.

No 14: Remember those who suffer among us

Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also (Hebrews 13:3).

There are brethren who have been imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit. There are also who have been unfairly treated. It is our duty as Christians to remember them in our prayers and to keep in touch with them.

We do whatever we can to help as if we ourselves also suffer with them. People who are in prison and those who are confined in isolation because of sickness are easily forgotten. May we always remember them and visit them whenever possible.

No. 15: Remember the teachings of the Apostles

But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts (Jude 1:17-18).

The Apostles of Christ are the original Disciples of Christ. They have been personally taught by the Greatest Teacher of all time. For this reason, it is only important for us to remember as well their teachings for what they teach also reflects what Christ had taught them.

We read their writings and epistles which include the letters of Paul, Peter, and John among others. We also read about their lives in the Gospels and Acts.

Moreover, in Jude’s epistle, we specifically read what the Apostles have taught about the mockers in the last days. They are people who will not listen to God and would even work hard to turn believers away from their faith.

There will be will who will mock us because of what we believe in. We must be ready for them and ensure we have the faith strong enough to withstand their insults.

No. 16: Don’t forget the benefits of Yahweh

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:2-5)

Some people think that following God means taking away their freedom and prevent them from doing whatever they please. Others think that if you follow God, you have to give up the “fun” and “good” things in life.

Nothing can be farther from the truth!

There are a lot of benefits that you can acquire from living close to God. Psalm 103 enumerates some of them.

The benefits of following God includes forgiveness of our iniquities, healing of our diseases, the redemption of our life from destruction, filling our life with lovingkindness, tender mercies, and good things, and renewing our strength!

How’s that for the benefits of having God in our lives!

No. 17: Don’t forget God’s word

I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word (Psalm 119:16).

God’s word is among the best gifts He has given to man. It is the instruction manual that helps us know how to live this life today and attain salvation in the future.

If there’s one book that you should read from cover to cover, it should be the Bible. [Click to Tweet!]

Its words are life and edification to the readers and hearers. If we don’t forget the word of God, it will dramatically and positively improve our lives. It leads to true happiness and blessedness.

No. 18: Remember to make your calling and election sure

Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble…

For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth…

Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease (II Peter 1:10, 12, 15).

God is calling children today. He is preparing a select few who would be part of His first harvest. For those whom God called, this is now our only chance to salvation. Once we have committed our lives to God through baptism, there’s no looking back. If we do, there will be no more sacrifice that will cover our sins (Hebrews 10:26).

Thus, the Apostle Peter urges us to remember to make your calling and election. Don’t waste this golden and precious opportunity because it will be the only one that you will have.

No. 19: Remember God’s compassion and faithfulness

“This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:21-23).

Sometimes, in the midst of trials and challenges, we often forget that God is a compassionate and faithful God. The truth is that when we are in our weakest, that’s the time when God is the strongest.

When we go through problems and things are not going the way we plan it to be, we must look to God and know that He is always there for us. His lovingkindness will never fail. He is faithful to His people and thus, we, in turn, must also be faithful.

No. 20: Remember that there are no other gods

“Remember this, and show yourselves men;
Recall to mind, O you transgressors.
9 Remember the former things of old,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like Me (Isaiah 46:8-9).

God the Father and Yahshua are both Gods. They are currently the Two Members of the God Family. They are the only God and there’s none.

Today, the majority of people don’t believe in the true God. They would rather worship different gods – gods of the sea, land, trees, animals, and others too numerous to mention.

Another not too obvious ways we create our own gods is when we put something between us and God. For example, if our job, respect of other people, and material possessions are more important than God, then we are making an idol out of them. While we do acknowledge that God is the only living and true God, our actions are telling the exact opposite.

Thus, we must remember that there is only one God and we must worship Him and Him alone.

Will you remember?

These are some of the things that we need to remember according to the Bible. Now that you know these things, will you put them into mind, meditate on them, and practice them in your life?

I hope that you have learned a lot from this blog. As humans, we are prone to forget things especially the things God wants us to remember. For this reason, we must seek God’s help in remembering these things.

How about you? Have I forgotten to a verse that should be included in this list? Let me know by leaving a comment below. Don’t hesitate to share this as well with your friends. 🙂
