By now, you probably have seen a picture of the movie The Nun. I’ve seen it on Facebook, Twitter, and shopping malls. I’ve seen it advertised on TV and heard it on the radio. The Nun Movie is dubbed as one of the best horror films of 2018. According to one source, this movie, to date, has already earned more than $230 million in revenue worldwide.

However, as Christians and followers of Christ, should we be sold to the hype and attention this movie is getting? Is it really okay for us to watch the Nun on the big screen or even in the comfort of our living room? Finally, how does God view the satanic and demonic movies you watch?

What is The Nun Movie?

I did a little research about The Nun movie. Upon checking, I learned that this movie is about a priest and a novitiate who were sent by the Vatican to investigate a mysterious death of a young nun. The nun was thought to have committed suicide. As the priest and novitiate uncover dark secrets that surround her death, they have to confront an evil spirit who took the form of a nun.

The Nun is actually part of a series of horror movies known as The Conjuring Universe. Yes, if The Conjuring movie title is familiar to you, it probably is because it is also a popular horror movie many years ago.

The movie received a mix of reviews. Some gave it high praise for its plot and cinematography, while others are disappointed. Here’s the Wikipedia entry for The Nun movie.

Should you watch The Nun movie?

For the purpose of this blog, I watched the trailer for this movie. Needless to say, it is outright a horror movie with the sole purpose of entertaining people in the form of fear and scare.

If you have read my previous blogs entitled, “Top 7 Reasons Christians Should Not Watch Horror Movies” and “A Godly Perspective about Watching Horror Movies”, you should know by now where I stand on this issue.

So many Christians today thought that it is okay to watch horror movies. I even receive comments from my readers that they use horror movies to get closer to God.

And I tell myself, “What a PATHETIC and LOUSY excuse!”

It is with great sadness that I know of some of my Christian friends who watched The Nun recently. Other Christians would even advertise and endorse this horrific film.

The Bible is clear when it comes to watching horror movies. We read:

I DO NOT WANT YOU TO HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH DEMONS. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons” (I Corinthians 10:20-21).

Horror movies are inspired by the dark side. They don’t dwell in the light. They don’t edify nor improve our character. They simply want to scare people and make money out of it.

(Instead of watching The Nun, why not watch godly movies? I wrote, “Top 10 Christian Movies You Should Watch Tonight.” Check it out!)

Just another harmless entertainment?

Watching horror movies allow you to entertain negative and demonic-inspired thoughts. It gives Satan a foothold in your life. This is something which we must seriously think about.

Ephesians 4:27 tells us to NEVER give a place to the devil. If you think that watching The Nun or other horror movies is just a harmless entertainment, think again! It invites Satan and his demons in your life.

Can you honestly watch this movie with Yahshua (Jesus Christ)? Can you honestly tell God that The Nun glorifies His name? Can you honestly use horror movies to advance the Gospel and preach it to other people?

Let’s be real here. Horror movies dim our light to the world. The world glorifies Satan and one of the ways they do this is to create and watch horror movies.

Yes, strong words and I could even be offending a lot of people writing this. Of that, I don’t care. The truth must be brought out there.

Let us make a bold stand as followers of Christ. Yes, we live in the world, but we must never be like the world.

Come out from among them and be separate

May Paul’s words resonate in your hearts and minds as I leave you with these verses (You can learn more about what it means to be unequally yoked with unbelievers here.):

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”

 Therefore

Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord
.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”

I hope we all make the right decision. There more things that we can do to help us grow physically and spiritually than waste our time, money, and energy on horror movies that glorify Satan.

Make the right choice. Don’t watch The Nun or any other horror movies. You won’t lose something by doing so, but instead, you will gain something by doing the will of God.
