How do you view your money? As a Christian, it should be according to the Scripture. In this post, let us take a look at some of the best ways Christians should view their money, wealth, and possession.

Money.

It seems that people can’t get enough of it. When they reach a certain level of income, they eventually get unsatisfied and look for more ways to earn money. For many of us, it has become a vicious cycle of wanting more and more.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with improving yourself and your living condition. Things will only get sour and bitter when you have the wrong way of viewing your wealth.

To avoid falling into the trap of discontentment and insatiable hunger for more wealth, it is important that we look at money the way God looks at money. We must know how to handle and view money according to the will of God.

Why?

Because it will ultimately lead to greater blessings – blessings that are not just physical, but also spiritual.

Thus, let me share with you 5 Biblical Perspectives on how we should view money.

No. 1: Money is NOT the root of all evil

People say that money is the root of all evil. Then, you will ask them, “why?” They will respond, “Because the Bible said so.” They claim that they read it somewhere in the Bible.

However, is this what the Bible says? Let’s read I Timothy 6:10:

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

From this verse, it is not the money that’s evil, but the love of it.

If you desire riches so bad that you are willing to give up your salvation, then you are committing the fatal mistake of loving money.

Christ even tells us, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul” (Matthew 16:26)?

As a result of loving money, what happens? People have erred from the faith and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The world is not short of examples of people who have lost everything simply because they love their money more than their wife, children, family, friends, reputation, character, and above all, their God.

Don’t commit the mistake of loving money as what others have done. I’ll tell you, it won’t be worth it. It is a road that you don’t want to tread.

No. 2: It is God who enables you to acquire wealth

The moment we don’t acknowledge the true Source of our blessing, that’s the moment we become poor. All good things come from God and if we ascribe the glory to ourselves, then we have really missed the point.

Deuteronomy 8:18 tells us:

“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

Did you catch that? God gives us life. He gives us strength. He rejuvenates our health. He grants us wisdom and intellect.

Indeed, if it wasn’t for God, we wouldn’t have the ability to acquire money. We wouldn’t be able to provide food, clothing, and even shelter to our family. It is God who gives us the POWER to get wealth and we must NEVER forget that.

Thus, if you lack money, then ask God to give you that power – the ability, skills, and health – to increase your income. He is more than willing to help you.

No. 3: Money won’t last forever

For most of us, it is obvious that money won’t last forever. However, there are just so many people who live their lives today believing that good times are permanent.

King Solomon, the wisest and probably, the richest man during his time, contemplated on this vital topic. He wrote in Proverbs 23:5:

Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

“Setting your eyes” in this verse means that you are eagerly gazing upon money. You are so consumed with acquiring wealth that you forgot the fact that they don’t last forever.

For this reason, you must be ready for rainy days. Bad times don’t last, so do good times. Life comes with many unexpected turns and twists. You might be perfectly healthy or super successful today, but tomorrow, things can easily change.

For this reason, remember: money won’t last forever.

No. 4: God gives us money to do good works

Why do you want to have a lot of money?

Why do you want to be rich?

If you have the wrong attitude or motive, then it will all come to nothing. Do you know that the Bible reveals the very reason why God blesses us with wealth? We read:

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (II Corinthians 9:8).

There’s the reason my friend!

God blesses us so that we can also bless others through the blessings we received from God. If our main reason why we acquire wealth is to be a fountain of blessings to others, then God will certainly bless us according to His bounty and purpose.

God wants to use us as a channel of His love, grace, and blessings.

While it is not totally wrong to spend your money on yourself, it is nobler and honorable to have the main goal of getting rich because you want to help others as well. For God, if you are unselfish in using your material wealth and resources, He will be more than willing to bless you even more to give you “an abundance for every good work.”

So, you need to ask yourself: Why do you want to be rich? Is it because of your selfish ambition or is it for you to help other people? I hope you have the right answer.

No. 5: We don’t own anything

There’s a huge difference between thinking that you own your money and thinking that God owns your money.

Most people have become so attached to their money and wealth because they believe that they own them. It is so easy to fall into this kind of thinking because every time you look at your bank account, your property’s title deed, and the receipt of your latest purchase, you see your name written on it. It tells you that the property belongs to you!

Of course, this is true. After all, you have worked so hard for the things that you have right now. It is only right to believe that they truly belong to you.

However, thinking that you, and you alone, have the right to your possession leads to a deadly trap of pride, greed, and selfishness.

Now, compare that to having the belief that you don’t own anything – that you are just a steward of the things you “own” right now. Believing that you are just the caretaker of your house, car, smartphone, laptop, computer, electronic gadgets, money, and others will cause you not to be attached to them.

The truth is that we don’t own anything. In fact, we don’t own our life. It is God who gave it to us. We read in Psalms 24:1:

“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.”

If we believe this verse with all our hearts, it would be easier for us to share our blessings with other people. After all, the money that we have in our wallet or bank isn’t ours. It is God’s.

Now, don’t be afraid to share your blessings. Yahshua or Jesus Christ, Himself, said:

“It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

If you give back to God a spoonful of blessings, he will repay you with a shovel full of blessings. You can never outgive God.
