(Before the festivities, I just felt that I need to tell you something. I don’t necessarily agree with all the teachings, concepts, and statements portrayed in the movie, but I would say I agree with them for about 90%. You may want to read my fundamental beliefs here. But still, the movies listed here are just simply something you shouldn’t miss. I can’t tell you enough how I love you to watch all these movies as well. I’m confident that you will enjoy them as much as I did. So, take your time and I will assure you that you won’t regret watching the movies I mention here.)

Christian movie no. 1: Courageous

Amazon Rating: 4.9 out of 5 stars (3820+ customer reviews)

Courageous is a movie that is just too good to ignore.

Courageous is about four law enforcement officers who are called to serve and protect their people. Every day, they face different problems and dangers in the streets, but there’s one challenge that they are yet to master – fatherhood.

What I love about this movie is its focus on family. It teaches about integrity, character, and life as we know it. It tackles common challenges that fathers face such as raring children and staying connected with their family despite their career.

I admit, the movie can be very dramatic at times and found myself shedding a few tears. However, there are some fun and hilarious moments as well. So, it’s a complete package!

So be ready to cry, laugh, and anything in between. I’m sure you will love Courageous.

Christian movie no. 3: War Room

war room

Amazon rating: 4.9 out of 5 stars (7,140+ customer reviews)

Here’s a more recent movie, War Room.

I know it sounds like a war movie, but War Room refers to the prayer room of the main character. It is called a “war” room because it got a lot of struggles and overcoming. It is a room especially dedicated to talking to God and asking for His powerful divine intervention against the great enemy.

I wrote a movie review of War Room. The title is, “The Best Reasons Why You Should Watch War Room.” Make sure to read this blog if you want to know the memorable quotes from the movie and the super important lessons from it.

I could not say enough, but this movie is a wonderful portrayal of what it takes to make your marriage work. I would say that it is one of the best Christian movies I’ve ever watched. So, I would highly recommend that you watch this movie. Even the trailer gives me goosebumps!

I get the chills and shed a few tears when I watched this movie for the first time. Now, I know I don’t usually get emotional, but this movie just has the right mix of emotion and lessons that you can surely relate to, whether you are single or married.

By the way, aside from the movie, War Room comes in a book. So, you go check the book version as well. Here’s the link.

Learn the power of prayer in your life today! Watch the movie now. 🙂

Here’s a nice quote from the movie:

“You’ve got to do your fight through prayer.”

Christian movie no. 4: Facing the Giants

Customer rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars (1900+ customer reviews)

I can’t recommend this movie enough.

I first saw this movie during our church’s youth camp and boy, let me tell you, it is one of the most inspiring Christian movies I’ve watched!

Facing the Giants is different from other movies I’ve listed here because it is action-packed and at the same time, dramatic. I’ve written a movie review about Facing the Giants and shared my insight. Be sure to read it here.

I was moved by this movie and I can tell you that I was totally blown away by how the directors pull off the ending.

As you can see, facing the Giants is a story about a football coach who rallied his team to victory despite being the underdog. Each player has their own struggle and even the coach.

My most favorite scene is the “Death Crawl” where one player was asked to do something that he thought he can never do. Now, I don’t want to spoil the movie. You better watch it. I’m sure, you’ll never be disappointed.

Just want to share a wonderful quote from the movie:

“If we win, we praise God. If we lose, we praise God!”

Christian movie no. 5: The Case for Christ

Amazon rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars (700+ customer reviews)

The Case for Christ will strengthen your faith.

In a world full of skeptics, scoffers, and doubters, it is so easy to lose our faith. Watch The Case for Christ if you want to know how to defend your faith. We, Christians, don’t have to believe what we believe and just hang everything on blind faith.

I have written a blog about the lesson I learned from The Case for Christ and you might want to read it to give you a better perspective. You may also read the book version of this movie and gain a deeper understanding of how to prove the veracity of your faith.

Join Lee, a professional journalist, in his quest to proving Christianity is wrong, but at the end, he proved Christianity right.

I want to ask the same question asked of Lee in this movie:

“Do you really want to know the truth or is your mind already made up?”

Christian movie no. 6: Risen

Amazon rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars (2,330+ customer reviews)

Oh, I love this movie!

We have seen a lot of movies about the life, suffering, and death of Yahshua the Messiah or Jesus Christ, but not much in what happened after His resurrection.

In this movie, Risen brings you to the time when Jesus rose from the tomb and the journey of a gentile to his godly conversion.

While watching this movie, I just can’t help but imagine what it was like to see the risen Christ. When all hope seemed to be lost, the stone was rolled and Christ rose from the dead!

Now, that’s powerful!

So, if you also want to have at least a glimpse of what the Apostles and even the Roman general felt when they discovered that Jesus is truly is the Son of God, then this movie is for you.

Christian movie no. 7: The Passion of the Christ

Amazon rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars (3,800+ customer reviews)

Jesus Christ died the most gruesome, humiliating, and excruciating death.

No movie can ever capture the full extent of Christ’s pain before He gave up his human life.

I believe the Passion of the Christ is the closest we can ever get to what Christ has to endure for us, human beings. The movie shows us what it means for Jesus to die for our sins and to be the perfect sacrifice.

Christ died for us so we may live.

I know The Passion of the Christ is just something too hard to watch for some. It is even not recommended for the very young audience. But I believe is a great tool for us to at least gain a deeper understanding of what God and Jesus Christ have to endure just to make salvation available.

For that, I would still recommend this movie. I hope by watching this film, we can have a better appreciation of Jesus’ sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins.

Christian movie no. 8: Flywheel

Amazon rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars (1,000+ customer reviews)

Flywheel is another incredible movie. Its main focus is on integrity and honesty.

Jay Austin is a used car salesman. He has sold a lot of cars, but the problem is, he sold it in a dishonest and manipulative way. It’s not surprising to see why some people think of car salesmen as liars and they are just out there to get our hard-earned money.

Because of a life-changing event, Jay came face to face with the ugly truth. He became disgusted with his way of life and would like to change for the better.

Though it seems tough to give back people’s money and endure fewer sales because of his new honest approach in selling, God has made his light to shine and turn things around.

While the film seems old (it was released I think 2003) and it was kind of a low-budget movie, don’t be fooled. It is packed with a powerful message to today’s age of commercialism. When dishonesty and greed for money dominate, Flywheel is a great reminder of what happens when we stick to God’s way of life.

Christian movie no. 9: God of Wonders

Amazon rating: 4.9 out of 5 stars (410+ customer reviews)

Having trouble in appreciating God’s power, authority, and creative ability? If yes, then let God of Wonders show you!

I know, this isn’t entirely a movie, but a documentary. I added this to my list because it is worth watching. I can honestly tell you that if there’s only one documentary you should watch, it should be this one.

The God of Wonders explores the handiwork of our heavenly Father and how His creation points back to Him. It will bring you to a journey of discovery and how God is truly our Creator and Father at the same time.

After watching the God of Wonders, I am sure that you will not see the nature around it in the same way again. The movie gives you a deeper understanding of what the Apostle Paul really meant when he wrote Romans 1:20:

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Christian movie no. 10: The Ten Commandments

Amazon rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars (2,440+ customer reviews)

This is classic!

I remember when I was still a kid and my father has these four tapes and put one to our VHS. The Ten Commandments was released in 1956.

I watched The Ten Commandments and the scene when the Red Sea parted has stuck in my mind to this day! Thankfully, the new DVD versions of this movie have enhanced the video quality.

Cecil DeMille and Charlton Heston have become a household name after the huge success of this film. Why not? It is truly a successful movie that every Christian and non-Christian alike should watch.

Maybe, some of you have already watched this movie, but it is still worth watching again. The movie runs for several hours, but it is still worth your time.

Bonus movie:

paul, apostle of christ amazon

I recently watched Paul, Apostle of Christ. It isn’t one of my top 10 favorite Christian movies, but still, I love the movie. It gives us a glimpse of what it truly means of giving and dedicating our lives to the work of God.

  22. Thank you for the list. I’d love to recommend ‘because of Gracia'(a boy trying to get through highschool unnoticed, a dating relationship gone too far, a new students who disturbs the status quo; the choices they made changed their lives… It teaches us to be christians no matter where we are, the situation we find ourselves and that we’re better with Christ regardless what it may not seem like or what others think) this movie got me. Pls watch.

    • Thanks for the recommendation Kingsley. I haven’t watched this movie yet. I watched the trailer and it looks interesting. I’ll approve your comment so others can also check it out. 🙂

  23. What do you think of ‘Miracles from Heaven’?? I found it very enjoyable and it’s based on a true story about a 10 year old girl who had an incurable disease and then had a freak accident, but I do have a few niggles and issues with it. My best friend loves it and has shared it with friends and family, and she’s not a Christian yet.

I highly recommend the classic 70s film ‘Joni’, starring Joni Eareckson-Tada as herself and how she learned to find meaning in life after her devastating neck injury.. Very uplifting, life affirming film..

‘The Lazarus Phenomenon’ is a dvd about 2 men who had life changing near death experiences.. One was an atheist, (Ian Mccormack) and the other was a Pastor from Nigeria I think, who was shocked at the message he was given… They are both dramatised documentaries with some vivid and memorable imagery. There is also a Gospel message afterwards.

And I may as well mention that every Christian family should have a stock of Little House on the Prairie, which is the most Christian TV programme I’ve ever seen.. Although that is not without it’s faults too.. Eg they celebrate Christmas and partake in Halloween.. Whoops..But who knew anything in those days?? But otherwise I think it’s fantastic.

    • HI Lorraine!

Thank you for these recommendations. 🙂

I haven’t watched any of those you mentioned. I’ll check them out and write a review if I have the time. 🙂

      Regards,
      Joshua

About a young man who reluctantly enters the navy and becomes a diver to please his father, but later finds himself in the most dangerous spy mission of the Cold War. Operation Ivy Bells, and the elite navy saturation divers who were jockeying for a chance to make SAT dives in Soviet Territorial waters.
