The Lessons We Learn From Unanswered Prayers

Did you ever experience the time when God seems to be asleep and could not hear your prayers?

I do.

You might have prayed as hard as you can for God to hear your cry but to no avail. Days have passed, weeks, months, and maybe years, and still, there’s no answer.

So you end up spending your life depressed, disappointed, and frustrated. Perhaps, you start to question God’s love for you.

We all came to the point when we are helpless, and we turn to God for help. But, we don’t see our prayers answered in the way we like it to be.

HOWEVER, what if I tell you today that God actually cares about you? That God is actually answering your prayer? That God has a better plan than what you think is best for you?

Friends, the truth is it’s just a matter of perspective. We see things with our limited human eyes. We can only see through a dark mirror. We don’t really see the whole picture.

Praying to God should not be about what we want, but what God wants in our lives. It is about God’s will and not our will.

The Lessons We Learn From Unanswered Prayers

In this blog, I want to share with you a beautiful and inspirational poem. I came across with this poem last week, and it’s too good not to share it. You might have read this before, but it’s worth reading again.

The title is “I asked God.” I tried to look for the author’s name, but I can’t find it. So, please let me know if you happen to his/her name.

I Asked God

I asked God to take my pain away.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away,
but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
Her spirit was whole,
her body was only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a by-product of tribulations,
it isn’t granted, it is earned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings,
Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life
so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me.
God said… Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

Final words

I hope you now have a better perspective when we pray. Sometimes, God says “no” to our prayers because it will not be for our good. In other times, it is because developing godly character is more important than a comfortable life.

May we remember the words of the Apostle John when he wrote:

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” I John 5:14).

So, be of good courage.

Cheer up.

If your God is not answering your prayer, it is because He is preparing something BIGGER than any of your plans, desires, and ambitions. Let us put our trust in God because we know He will not withdraw anything good from us.
