10 Most Effective Ways to Preach the Gospel Today

Preaching the Gospel is the commission Jesus (Yahshua) Christ gave to His followers. But the big question is “HOW? How can we preach the Gospel with power especially today? Times and things may change, but the message remains the same. We are commanded by our Captain of Salvation to “go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people” (Mark 16:15, GNB).

Preaching the Gospel is the most IMPORTANT work on the face of the planet. Thus, it is crucial that we, as Christians, know how we bring the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to every corner of the world. While this might be a difficult task, Jesus expects His people to do their best. As long as we do our part, God will give the increase of our labor (I Corinthians 3:6-7).

So, in this blog, let me share with you 10 powerful ways we can preach the Gospel today.

1. Study the Bible

We know that we can’t give something that we don’t have. In the same way, we need to know what the Gospel is all about. Before we can teach, we must know what to preach. By studying the Bible, we can have the proper understanding of what God expects from us.

Here’s something that we all need to learn: before we can preach the Gospel, we must know what the Gospel is.

While the purpose of my blog today is not about defining the Gospel, I just want to give a quick overview. The Gospel came from a Middle English word meaning “good news.” In Greek, it came from the word euaggelion which means “a good message.”

Contrary to what most Christians believe, the Gospel is NOT primarily about Jesus Christ or His life. In the biblical language, the Gospel is about the coming Kingdom of God (Mark 1:14-15). That’s why it is called “good” news because it talks about the good news that one day God will directly intervene in the affairs of men by sending His Son to establish His Kingdom here on earth.

This is a huge topic, and I highly recommend that you read the eye-opening article entitled “What is the true Gospel?” This article will give you a comprehensive and biblically sound definition of the Gospel.

Again, to be an effective preacher of the Gospel, you need to study the Bible first. By doing so, we can be “READY TO GIVE A DEFENSE (or preach the Gospel) to everyone who asks [us] a reason for the hope that is in [us], with meekness and fear” (I Peter 3:15).

2. Pray for God’s help

We read in the Bible different things we must pray for. One of that is to “pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:38). We need to earnestly pray for God’s help that we can be effective preachers of the Gospel. We must not commit the mistake of thinking that we can do it all by ourselves. As a matter of fact, preaching the Gospel is not about us. It is about God’s will and purpose for the entire humanity. That’s why we need His help.

Aside from praying for ourselves, we must also pray for the ministers, pastors, and other servants of God. We need to realize that God has called people to do His work and we must pray for each other. We pray to God to open more doors of opportunities for the advancement of the Gospel.

3. Be a light of the world

A wise man once said, “I would rather SEE a sermon than hear one.” This quote is saying that our living example is more powerful than what we might say. It is useless to preach the Gospel if we don’t translate it in our lives.

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify you Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14, 16). Christ was telling us that we must be a good example to others in such a way that it glorifies God the Father.

This blog is not sufficient to elaborate on the actual meaning of being a light of the world. That’s why I encourage you to read a blog I wrote entitled, “What does it mean to be a light of the world? A Deeper Look at Matthew 5:14-16.”

So, how can being a light of the world help us preach the Gospel? Simple. We must practice what we preach. While this is a common knowledge, it is not a common practice. People won’t believe our message if we, ourselves, violate the same message that we bring. It just won’t work!

Through our words and actions, people would be drawn to God. Sometimes, it only takes a simple godly gesture to make people notice our light and eventually ask about the hope that is in us. That would then be the golden opportunity to share the Good News of the coming Kingdom of God.

4. Make preaching the Gospel as your priority

Because of the busyness of life, we sometimes forget about the purpose of our calling. We become distracted by a lot of things, from our smartphone to the noise outside our home.

We are called to do a work. We are not just Christians who are called to warm our seats every church service. We must actively be about our Father’s business.

It is worth noting how Jesus treated the preaching of the Gospel. We read in John 4:31-34.

“In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”

Did you grasp the meaning of Jesus’ word? HE IS SAYING THAT DOING GOD’S WORK IS HIS FOOD! Without it, He will die. It makes Him weak when He can’t preach the Gospel.

How about us? Does it also make us weak when we don’t partake of the spiritual food we get from doing the work of God? Does it even bother us when a day passes by, and we haven’t done something that advances the preaching of the Gospel?

We need to start thinking of spreading the Gospel as a part of our lives. It deserves a portion of our time every day of our lives. If we don’t, just like not eating food, we will eventually get weak, sick, and die.

5. Share the Gospel in social networking sites

As of June 2017, Facebook has more than 2 billion monthly active users. Now, that’s just for Facebook. This does not include the people who use Google Plus, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, and other social networking sites. The Internet has opened a floodgate of opportunity for the preaching of the Gospel. In fact, using social media is one of today’s most effective ways to reach as many people as possible with the least amount of time, energy, and resources. (Here’s how you can preach the Gospel through Facebook.)

MAKE IT YOUR HABIT to at least share something on your wall about the Gospel of God every day. Of course, it can also be about other Christian topics. If you have the time to share worldly things on Facebook or Twitter, surely, you must have a chance to share the Gospel with your online friends or contacts. Wouldn’t it be nicer to share the blessed hope that the Gospel brings rather than spreading negativity?

6. Share godly publications

Most religious groups or churches today have their publications free of charge. You can share your church website, magazines, booklets, books, articles, and other published materials to your friends, family, relatives, and acquaintances. If you are a student, you can ask your school library if it is possible to display church publications. If you have your own business establishment, why not post it at the front desk or in the lobby as a free reading material for your customers? Or you can approach business owners to display church publications.

There are just so many ways for you to share the Gospel of God. Just be proactive and have the initiative to take the step to do something for God’s work.

When the right time comes, you can then invite someone to attend your church. Of course, you shouldn’t be pushy when it comes to inviting other people. This individual should display some signs of interest. Remember, it is not you who call people to the church. It is God (John 6:44). You are just an instrument. God will eventually put into the heart of a person the need to attend a church if He is indeed working with that person.

7. Give your tithes and offering

Preaching the Gospel costs money and one of the best ways to support God’s work is to give our tithes and offerings. While some may argue that tithing is a thing of the past, it is actually still practiced by the church of God today. Personally, there are a lot of reasons why I tithe and one of that is to ensure that we have enough resources to preach the Gospel.

Giving back a portion of our income to God shows our priority. It shows where our hearts are. I don’t have enough time to show you why tithing is still a Christian duty today. So, I recommend that you read this free booklet, “What does the Bible teach about tithing?

8. Start a blog

becoming-christian

Blogging is a wonderful gift to Christians. It is an excellent way to positively use the power of words and help other people learn more about the Gospel. Personally, I use Becoming Christians as a way to spread the Good News. At the same time, it pleasantly forces me to study the Bible and share what I learned by creating a blog.

There are a lot of platforms today that help you start a blog without spending a single dime. I began blogging with the aid of WordPress.com. Other popular free blogging platforms are Blogger, Wix, Hubpages, Squarespace, and Tumblr.

9. Take advantage of local radio stations

Sharing the Gospel through the sound waves can potentially reach thousands of people. Radio stations provide competitive rates. Depending on the popularity of the radio station and the time slot you took, you will eventually meet someone who will be interested in knowing more about the Gospel.

10. Create TV programs

Creating TV programs can be costly and time-consuming. However, it is very efficient. Not only that but depending on the TV station you choose, it instantly makes your program accessible and in turn, advances God’s work. People are visual-oriented being. When they see and hear the Gospel, the level of engagement is higher compared to just listening or reading.  In my experience, I have seen the significant number of people who respond after viewing a church TV program. With the right funding and support, creating a Gospel TV program would make a big difference.

Final words

These are just some of the most effective ways to preach the Gospel in this modern day. Preaching the Gospel is not optional. IT IS A MANDATORY DUTY OF EVERY CHRISTIAN. It is not something that we only do when we feel like it. Our lives should be a living example and testimony of what the Gospel is all about. The words of the Apostle Paul must resonate in the deepest corners of our mind: “Woe is me if I do not preach the gospel” (I Corinthians 9:16).

So, my dear brothers and sisters, let us do our best to preach the Gospel. Let us make this Christian calling as our magnificent obsession!
