What TED Talks Utterly Fails to Teach You

Have you heard about TED Talks? It is an organization where they invite different people from around the world to give a speech. These people can be entrepreneurs, war survivors, activists, bloggers, TV personalities, politicians, journalists, educators, life coaches, philanthropists, teachers, motivational speakers, and any people who have a story to share.

What TED Talks Utterly Fail to Teach You

I went to the official website of TED and here is how they define itself:

“TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.”

I’ve got to tell you, I like to listen to TED Talks! I mean I don’t necessarily agree with everything they say, but as a person who loves to listen to people with great ideas, I get hooked whenever an interesting topic comes up.

If you go to TED’s official YouTube channel, you will see that they have already uploaded 2,000 videos and some of these videos have already attained millions of views. There’s no doubt; TED Talks are highly popular.

However, as I go through the videos of TED, there is something that I noticed. These people talked about how they accomplished greatness in their lives through their own strength and abilities. They never talk about God.

I have watched over a hundred TED Talks, but I haven’t heard a single speaker even mentioned God or gave credit to Him for the wonderful things that had happened to them.

I watched one TED Talk that talks about how she became successful in her business and earning a lot of money, but still felt empty inside. She searched for many years about what it really means to live a life with a purpose. She worked hard to find her inner passion – to find that ONE BIG THING in her life that would really make her feel fulfilled.

And as I watched her video, I was thinking, if only this lady turns to the Bible. The answer is already there, but like most people in the world, she refused to listen to what the Creator has to say.

Yes, TED Talks are great, but if you are looking for the right answers to life’s most significant questions, you will just utterly fail to find it in their talks.

Here’s what the wisest human king has to say about the ultimate purpose of our lives. After living a life of worldly pleasures and vain material pursuit, he concluded:

“After all this, there is only one thing to say: Have reverence for God, and obey his commands, because THIS IS ALL THAT WE WERE CREATED FOR” (Ecclesiastes 12:13, GNB).

You may continue watching TED Talks, just like what I would do. But just bear in mind that they can never teach you what it really means to live a fulfilling, blessed, and happy life. It is only through reading Yahweh’s Word and living by His Word that you will achieve a TRULY successful life.
