Bible Verses That Show Why We Should Study God’s Word

“Why study the Bible?”

This is a vital question we need to answer. After all, the Bible was written thousands of years ago. Is it still relevant for us today?

We initially might have a vague answer. We might even have our own answers based on what we previously know. However, wouldn’t it be great to let the Bible respond to this crucial question?

In this blog post, let me share with you the answers to the question why should we study the Bible straight from the Bible itself.

1. The Bible is literally inspired by God

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…” (II Timothy 3:16).

The Greek word for inspiration is “theopneustos”. The word means “divinely breathed by God.” The ultimate author of the Bible is no other than God, Himself. Though men wrote it, it is certainly inspired by God.

2. The Bible can be used for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work”(II Timothy 3:16-17).

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work”(II Timothy 3:16-17).

4. Studying the Bible gives us the wisdom to attain salvation

“But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (II Timothy 3:15).

5. Studying the Bible helps us to become prosperous and achieve success in life

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

6. Bible study helps us overcome sin

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalms 119:11).

7. Bible study gives us a sense of direction

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalms 119:105).

8. Bible study prepares us to give a defense of our faith

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (I Peter 3:15).

9. Studying the Bible helps us keep our spiritual sword sharp for battles

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil… And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:10, 17).

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

10. Studying the Bible will set us free

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth” (John 17:17).

In conclusion

recite-fsko4rIf there is one book that you need to read from cover to cover, it should be the Bible.

If there is one book that should remain in this world’s greatest libraries, it should be the Bible.

It is through prayer that we talk to God, and it is through Bible study that God talks to us. Take the time to read the His word. The Bible is the instruction manual that will help us know how to live this life. It reveals to us the only road to eternal life.

So if you are looking for the best investment of your time, it would be the time you invest in reading, studying, meditating, and applying the lessons you learn from the Bible.
