Lessons from the Life of Samuel: Accepting God as the King of your Life (Part 5)

Who is the ultimate ruler of your life? Who do you follow? Who do you look to when making a decision? As a Christian, we know that God should be our King. He should be the one who should direct our paths and guide us to the road of life.

In this post, let us learn what happens when we seek other rulers and kings in our lives. Let us look into the story of Samuel and how the ancient Israelites demanded a human king to rule over them.

Lessons from the Life of Samuel Accepting God as the King of your Life (Part 5)

Rejecting God as the King

During the life of Samuel, we have seen the transition of Israel from being ruled by a judge to being ruled by a human king. As Samuel grew old, he made his sons as the judges of Israel. To the dismay of Samuel, his sons were not as faithful as him. Instead, they “did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice” (I Samuel 8:3).

This made the elders worry about the outcome of the situation when the time comes when Samuel will finally die. And so, they demanded a king. Samuel prayed to God and explained to the people of Israel the dire consequences of having a human king (I Samuel 8:11-18).

The problem with the request of Israel is that they ALREADY had a King ever since they have been conceived to become a true nation. That King is no other than God, Himself!

The judges are God’s representatives and God rules through them. Demanding a human king is an act of rebellion against God. This is the main reason that God said to Samuel, “they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them” (I Samuel 8:7).

As displeased as God and Samuel with the people of Israel may be, they were given their first king, Saul. However, this will not go well for them for very long. As we will see, the majority of the age of kings in Israel had been a story of oppression, suffering, and dismay.

Living under the rulership of God

As Christians, we should not have other kings but God. He should be our ultimate Ruler and supreme King who reigns over our lives. We do this not because we have to but this is the best thing to do. Following a King of love, peace, and mercy is the best decision you can ever make in your life.

So what does making God as your King means? It means that you have to “love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22: 37). Serving God requires our 100% effort. It is not a half-hearted duty that we can always neglect when we just don’t feel like it. It requires us to surrender our lives with all its entirety to Him. This is the sweetest surrender that we can all do during our lifetime.

When we serve God, we will definitely reap the many blessings and benefits for doing so. Psalms 103:1-5 tells us:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His BENEFITS:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Whom will you choose as the King of your life?

Whether we like it or not, we have to make a decision. This decision will determine whom we will serve. There are only two choices: serving God or serving Satan and ourselves. There is no middle ground. So whom will you choose to obey?

The answer should be obvious right now. However, it is not always easy to make the right decision. We can easily be trapped by the pleasures of sin. As pleasurable sin can be, we know the end of the story. The pleasure will only last for a very short time and what happens next will result in pain, suffering, and guilt.

Many people would like to have a happy and blessed life but sad to say, they are running in the opposite direction. Instead of going to God and having Him the ruler of our lives, we tend to think that we know better. Then, we wonder why we end up empty, shattered, and hopeless.

The nation of Israel rejected God as their King. Will we commit the same mistake? Will we not learn from the life of Samuel? Will we take heed and commit our lives to the one True and living King?

We have given a two options and God says, “Choose life” (Deuteronomy 30:19).

  1. It’s amazing how clear it is to the Body of Christ that God is King, ruler, and final say in ALL AND EVERY AREA OF OUR LIVES! But, there are a group of people, called tares, that name themselves amongst the Body of Christ and are going to be burning in gehenna, and are NOT a part of the Body of Christ at all!!!!!! St. Matthew 13:30 (Jesus separating the wheat from the tares)! I know this one thing to be true, when all hell comes against your life, and rubber meets the road in your life, you BETTER belong to Christ and GOD BETTER BE LORD AND KING IN AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, OVER ALL YOUR LIFE! NOT LORD AND KING WHEN THINGS ARE GOING YOUR WAY! IN THE GOOD AND BAD TIMES! WITHOUT COMPROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here’s a sure sign of a tare or non- body of Christ member, when it comes down to a gehenna bound tare person, making a important decision in their lives to either compromise with other gehenna bound fools of this fallen world (sinners) or stick and stay with God, no matter what, you and all others around you will find out if (1st Corinthians 3:23 & Romans 8:31) is true about you or NOT! GOD cannot have anything but 100% of your life! No such thing as him being a part time King in your ENTIRE LIFE! HOGWASH!!!!!!!!!! From the H-O-G-W-A-S-H!! He’s either KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS OR HE ISN’T. You will NEVER have the chance nor luxury of being a Body of Christ member, and having anything or anyone else, other than God, to be 100% King over ALL your life! Choose you this day, WHO you will serve?
Answer this question tares; if GOD is NOT King of Kings and Lord of LORDS over your life 100% 7 days a week 24 hours a day, then WHO IS? money, peer acceptance, career, wicked rulers and leaders internationally, hollywood? yourself? DECIDE!!!! and decide NOW!
