A Statement to Challenge You From Sinning

I have watched a movie (but not entirely) entitled, “Puss in Boots”. The movie caught my attention because I am really a fan of 3D movies. These types of movies are nice since they can impart valuable lessons.

I am not here to narrate the story from first to last, but one scene provoked me to think about how I am doing in my spiritual life.

The town of San Ricardo is about to be attacked by a giant goose. Puss caught his friend Humpty in the watch tower. Puss and Humpty grew together and were very good friends until Humpty betrayed Puss. Once again, Humpty betrayed Puss and this time, putting the whole town of San Ricardo in danger.

humpty and puss in bootsPuss want to help his friend to change his ways in spite of the bad things Humpty has done to him. He wants to convince Humpty that it is never too late to change. In the course of their discussion, Puss spoke a sentence that pricked me in the heart. He said, “Humpty, you are better than this!” … You are better than this.

Are you Humpty in a spiritual sense?

I want to ask you a question which I believe a question for all of us. Are you a Spiritual Humpty? Continuing to sin when we should have known better? Continuing to sin even if we know that our action will hurt ourselves and also the people around us? Continuing to sin even if we have given the chance to change?

These questions should affect us PERSONALLY. I am guilty of these questions. Guilty as charged and I believe that recognizing this as soon as possible is the first step to repentance.

Every time I sin, I know I am better than this. But still, I chose to sin. Why? Because of the pleasure I get from sinning. But does that make me happy? Yes, but only momentarily as afterwards, I have to face the consequences of my actions.

We should not choose the fleeting pleasures of sin. Are we going to EXCHANGE our salvation and the only chance to eternal life to the short-lived pleasures of sin which afterwards will just become nothing and vain? Again, let me tell you this: YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS!

Goodness of God leads to repentance

Romans 2:4 states that:

“Do you… not know that God’s goodness leads you toward repentance?

I hope that your answer to Paul’s question is “yes”. He is NOT an angry God who is pictured by many who is having a lightning bolt in His hand ready to blast you towards extinction the second you step out that red line. But He is MERCIFUL and ever patient with us. If He would have been fierce and angry, all of us should have died right now but He gives us another chance and TELLS us, “My Child, you are better than this”.

God gives us a choice to repent and turn away from our sinful ways. But remember, God is also the God of JUSTICE. One day, we have to stand in His judgment seat and will give account to all we have done. The question now is “did you strive to be better or worse?” I sincerely hope it is for the better.

God believes in you

God believes in you and He always tells us that we are better than committing sin. He promises us that “He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also PROVIDE a way out so that you can stand up under it” (I Cor. 10:13). This verse assures us that with all temptations that come our way, overcoming is possible through God’s help.

What happened to Humpty?

I really like happy endings. Like what Puss said, “You are better than this”. He was challenged by that statement and made a decision to make an 180-degree turn away from his wicked ways. Puss and Humpty teamed up and saved the town of San Ricardo.

The lesson is clearly shown here. You are CHALLENGED by a powerful statement. I am challenged. We are all challenged.

In our spiritual battle against Satan, are we winning or losing?

So remember when you are tempted to sin, challenge and tell yourself…

“YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS!”
