Zealously Serving God’s People During the Feast of Tabernacles

grouppicFOT15This year’s feast has been truly and undeniably a blessing and gift from God. From September 28 until October 5, God’s people around the world kept the Feast of Tabernacles and The Last Great Day. Over the course of time, I wondered what makes a feast awesome and what makes it seems ordinary. For the last 12 years I’ve been keeping the feast, I realized this one thing is true; the success of the feast lies in the willingness of every member to serve.

The Theme of the Feast

The theme of the feast for this year is, “Your Part in the Restoration of All Things”. This statement is tremendously packed with so much profound meaning and significance. Every single member of the church is called to do their part in the restoration of all things.  Every day of the feast, we are called to do small things, but with great love and we are called to do great things, but with a humble attitude.

Serving with Love

Serving during the feast plays a GREAT part in the success of the feast. Ever since I’ve started keeping the feast, I’ve seen the strength that lies within the hearts of volunteers. These volunteers are not motivated by selfish gains or money, but I have seen their willingness to make the feast truly a wonderful experience for everyone.

This reminded me of what Galatians 5:13; “but by love serve one another”. When a person is motivated by love and outgoing concern for other people, the feast has become extraordinary and truly special.

Yes, it is true that serving can be tiring and sometimes, it will demand big energy and time from a person. As this might be the case, it seems that the more a person serves, the more he or she feels blessed and happy. I believe this is one of the remarkable spiritual laws God has set in the universe for all of us to realize.

Choose to serve

During the feast, you don’t have to be a minister, pastor or a church leader to serve. Everyone can contribute to the success of the feast. No matter what station or office you hold, you can always give something to make the feast truly wonderful.

Never ever underestimate the small things that you can do, because those small things, when combined together, will become great. God can use your small things and use it for His greater purpose.

Live a life of service

It is not just during the feast you can serve. Make it your magnificent obsession. Make it your passion. The more you serve, the more you will feel fulfilled. Stop being a spectator and start being a doer. Be a volunteer rather than just watching as things happen.

Remember, we can all serve without loving, but we can never love without serving.

It is not enough to just do a one-time big action of serving. Service ought to be such a part of us that it defines us in the eyes of those around us. It must not be directed to just one individual or a group of people, but it must be done to anyone who needs help. Keep in mind that Jesus died for all and not just for a select few.

If you really, truly, and genuinely want be happy and blessed during the feast or in any day of your life, serving is the answer. Striving to make yourself happy is completely the exact opposite of achieving happiness.

Life is good if you are happy, but life is at its best when other people are happy because of you. When you make other people happy, happiness will eventually find its way back to you. This is something that I always have proven in my life, time and again.

Yes, most people will not appreciate us or even remember the kind words or actions we’ve done. But God is faithful and just to remember the good works we’ve done within this lifetime. So never give up. Continue in serving because at the end of the day, it is between you and God and not between you and them.

Live a life of service, be an inspiration, and be a blessing. You can be confident that God will reward you for that. 🙂

  1. Thanks, Joshua. I wholeheartedly agree! I first learned the serving lesson when I attended the Feast in Guatemala in 1996. Serving makes the Feast!
