How Christians Should React to the Legalization Of Same-Sex Marriage

On June 26, 2015, the United Stated legalized same-sex marriage.

We must ask the big question, “what NOW?”

As the world celebrates what they call a triumph for equality and freedom, we, Christians, are faced with more insurmountable problems that challenge our moral standings. In the midst of moral decay in our society, what should we be doing as Christians?

Point no. 1: Recognize that things will get worse

No one can deny that the handwriting is on the wall. Biblical prophecies are now unfolding right in front of our eyes and we know our society is treading down the road of destruction. The legalization of same-sex marriage happened to Ireland and the United States and I won’t be surprised if the same thing will happen in my country and anywhere in the world.

Christians who uphold the traditional definition of marriage will face persecutions. Those who try to love the Word of God will be called haters. Those who try to raise their voices against immorality will be silenced, ridiculed and most of all, punished.

Point no. 2: Rejoice for our redemption is near

Luke 21:28 tells us,:

When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Yes, we need to be sighing and crying for how much this world has become so drenched in immorality. However, the Bible says that all these things should come to pass before the return of Jesus Christ.

The world is now setting the stage for Jesus’ second return. We have the hope that one day, God will establish His Kingdom here on earth and He will right every wrong humanity has done. This is one good reason for us to rejoice.

Point no. 3: Be a COURAGEOUS and uncompromising Christian

God told Joshua:

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

There is no denying that Christians will face a more difficult time now that we are in the midst of Sodom and Gomorrah. Just like Lot, we will constantly be bombarded with pressure to compromise with our beliefs.

When the push comes to shove, will you have the courage to stand your ground and follow God no matter what?

Let’s pray for courage and boldness to be good soldiers of Jesus (Yahshua) Christ.

Point no. 4: Approach homosexuality with compassion

No matter what people say and how hard they distort what the Bible say, homosexuality is a sin, no more, no less. People may be uncomfortable with that, but that is the TRUTH.

However, we don’t go out there flashing our lights on people’s eyes. We need to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Remember, Christians should hate the sin and not the sinner.

We are all sinners. Homosexuals are sinners in the same way as we are. Homosexuality is not the worst of all sins, but it is a sin nevertheless – a sin that should be repented of.

Just like Christ who helped the woman who was charged with adultery, we need to have the compassion to lead homosexuals to Christ and help them change their lifestyle.

Let us stop condemning them as if they don’t have the potential to be part of God’s family and they are doomed to burn in hell. This is the main reason other people think that Christianity is evil and dismiss religion all together.

This should not be the case. We must be firm with our beliefs, but at the same time, help them to recognize their need for repentance and change of heart.

Point no. 5: Start reconsidering our priorities in life

There is no denying that we are heading to the last days. The decision of the Supreme Court should behoove us to reconsider our priorities in life. We might still be living comfortably in our homes, but things can change overnight. This should be a wake-up call for every Christian out there.

Let us STOP chasing the wrong things in life, but instead let us all be about our Father’s business. We have a work to do and we are not just Christians warming our seats. The greatest investment you can make today is to do God’s work and follow His will for your life.

Final words

God is in control. People may change the definition of marriage and persecute who will stand against them, but we should never allow them to come between us and God. We have a choice: to bow down our knees to Baal or to God. When all things are said and done, which side will you be standing?

It is my sincerest hope that all of us will find the faith and courage to PERSEVERE until God will finally establish His Kingdom here on earth!
