Have you ever wondered if man can truly become a god?

I do. When I was still a young boy watching superhero movies, I hear about gods turning to man and men turning to a god.

The very thought is just incredible!

You might have also wondered about this and want to know the answer. Thankfully, you don’t have to look far and wide just to find the astonishing answer to this question.

Can man become God?

Let the Bible answer your question today!

The incredible answer to how man can become a god

Can man become God?

The very first lie that made us mortal

One of the first lies ever uttered by Satan the Devil to our first parents is that they will become like God the moment they eat of the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Sadly,

Satan was able to convince both Adam and Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit.

What was the lie he used? We read in Genesis 3:4-5:

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will NOT surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The problem is that so many people throughout the ages believed the deadly lie that Satan has uttered in the Garden of Eden. Because of believing this lie, people have acted like God.

They make themselves as gods, determining which is evil and which is good. They rejected God and have enthroned themselves to be the god of themselves!

Godhood through artificial immortality

Death is the great equalizer. It comes to all people – rich or poor, young or old, male or female. It does not discriminate.

Death is a part of life. The moment you live, you start dying.

That’s why we have heard a lot of stories how mankind has searched for the fountain of youth, the great elixir, and the fruit of immortality. Many have sought for the key to immortality and have gone so far as to defy fundamental morality and ethics.

In this day and age, we have seen unbelievable technological advancements. Combined with the amazing explosion of knowledge and information, it seems that the race is on to turn man into an immortal being – in effect, to become a god.

Some scientists today predict that man will achieve immortality by 2050. Some even boldly claim that achieving immortality could happen as early as 2025.

The most promising development is the thought of using microscopic robots that would be injected into the bloodstream and act as powerful cells to reverse aging, repair tissues, and eliminate harmful viruses and bacteria.

Other ways humans try to cheat death are through genetic engineering, the creation of lab-grown tissues and organs, cryonics, and robotic body replacements. All of these methods are seen to contribute more and more to man’s quest to immortality.

However, not many have really thought of the dire consequences of these research. Man is made of flesh and blood. By nature, we are all going decline, weaken, and eventually die because that’s just how life works.

If ever man achieves immortality by his own effort, it would be a catastrophic, depressing, and hopeless existence. Being trapped in a body sustained by artificial means isn’t life at all.

Clearly, man can’t and won’t be able to achieve immortality by his own effort. No, it won’t happen even after 2050. If it will happen, it will only happen with the help of the Source of eternal life – God.

“Ye are gods”

In an unexpected turn of event, the Jews wanted to stone Yahshua or Jesus Christ to death.

The Jews said to Christ, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God” (John 10:33).

The response of Jesus was outstandingly surprising for everyone who heard Him that day. He said in verse 34, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’?”

Jesus – our ultimate authority and source of truth – said, “You are gods” (John 10:34). What did Jesus mean when He said this?

It is very clear that He was essentially saying that human beings are gods! If the Scripture refers to human beings as gods, why would they be upset when Jesus calls Himself the Son of God!

There’s no doubt about this scripture. Jesus quoted a passage from Psalms 82:6 where the Hebrew word for “gods” is Elohim which literally the same word used to denote God. In the New Testament, the word “gods” used the Greek word Theos which again means “gods”.

God reproducing Himself through mankind

Why did God create human beings?

The reason is that He wants to expand His family. This is the reason the Hebrew word for God is Elohim, a word that has a plural form, yet singular in usage. One good example of this is the United States; though there are many states that form this country, it uses a singular verb.

Thus, we can read in Genesis 1:26, “Let US make man in our image, after OUR likeness”. God is, therefore, a family that is comprised of two Eternal Beings, God the Father and the Word (which later became Yahshua or Jesus Christ, John 1:1-3).

Genesis 1:26 shows that man was made according to the God-kind. Like a dog reproducing a dog, a cat reproducing a cat, and so is mankind made after the image and likeness of God.

Psalms 82:6 says, “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.” This verse equates being gods as the children of God.

Gods in the future

Though we are created by God and we are His children, there is no doubt that we are not “gods” yet in its fullest sense. God is spirit and we are physical. We need to be born into His family before we can fully enjoy the blessings of being literal “gods”.

Notice how this dramatic change will happen mentioned in I Corinthians 15:52-54:

In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

Finally, the apostle John made this even clearer:

“Beloved, now we are the children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be LIKE Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).

The scripture reveals that humans cannot see God and live (Exodus 33:20; John 1:18). Thus, we shall only see God, as the apostle John said, when we finally have become immortals and spirit beings who can now withstand the full glory of God.

Can man become God?

ABSOLUTELY! The answer to our question should now be clear.

Yes, man CAN become God and this can only happen through the grace of our Heavenly Father. It is not by our own strength that we can be part of the Holy and Divine Family. However, God still expects that we willingly follow His commandments.

The awesome privilege of becoming a literal god shall not be given to just anyone, but only to those whom God had tested. Though we may not be gods today, we have the incredible and full potential to be like God.

By that time, we will not just have immortality or eternal life, but we will also have the awesome opportunity to reign with Yahshua when God’s Kingdom will be established here on earth!

    • Hi Virender,

In this lifetime, you can’t be a god. However, if you will be among the saved in the future and be granted eternal life, then you would be part of God’s family, which is the godkind.

      Cheers,
      Joshua

  2. You have not mentioned the Holy Spirit which is an essential part of the Godhead. God is three not two beings and has been since the beginning of time

    • Hi Jo,

Nowhere in the Bible would you see that the Holy Spirit is a God Being. In fact, it has always been alluded as the power of God and not a separate being.

You can learn more about this by reading my blog, “The 5 Shocking Truths about the Trinity Your Pastor Does not Tell You.”

  3. Josh – You sound like a cross between Armstrongism and Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Bible is quite clear that man cannot become God. Such passages as Isaiah 43:10, 44:6, 46:9, and numerous others verify that. Furthermore, the Bible clearly states in several places that the Father is God, Jesus (the Son) is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. So the doctrine of the Trinity is biblical and true. As someone who has dedicated 50+ years to biblical and theological study, I think it is safe to conclude that your theology is in error.

    • Indeed, there is no other God but Yahweh the Most High and His Son Yahshua. We will be like Yahshua when we become immortals. In essence we become like God but we are not in the same level as They are.

A dog’s offspring is a dog. A cat’s offspring is a cat. The children of God are future gods.
