Have you ever prayed to God and it seems that He doesn’t hear? You tried to pray over and over again, but you don’t get the answer? Maybe you bargained with God and promised a lot of things just for Him to answer your prayer. I know we can all relate to this, but how can we really pray a prayer that God hears? In this post, let me share with you 8 ways for God to answer or hear our prayer.

Point no. 1: Ask in faith

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22).

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed” (James 1:6).

It is useless to ask God for something and at the back of your mind, you doubt what God can do for you. God wants us to ask in faith and make sure that we truly believe in His power, love and mercy.

Point no. 2: Stop sinning

“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight” (Proverbs 15:8).

“He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be ABOMINATION” (Proverbs 28:9). Isa 59:2

“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psalms 66:18).

“Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a PURE heart” (II Timothy 2:22).

Sin can separate us from God. Sin can even make our prayer an abomination. Imagine praying to God while having negative thoughts and evil heart. It just won’t work.

Point no. 3: Keep His commandment

“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight” (I John 3:22).

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7).

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil” (I Peter 3:12).

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” (Psalm 37:4).

Avoiding sin is not enough. You have to keep God’s commandment. We must not be a passive Christian, but an ACTIVE Christian. Following God’s commandment positions you under hands of God’s blessing.

Point no. 4: Ask according to his will

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us” (I John 5:14).

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalms 37:5).

We all have something we need or want, but above these, we need to prioritize the will of God. God’s will is perfect. If there is something that you really want in your life to happen, it should be God’s will. Undeniably, most of our desires are not according to God’s will. However, if we only entrust our life to God, we will eventually see that His will is for our own good.

Point no. 5: Have the right motivation

“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask AMISS, that ye may consume it upon your lusts” (James 4:3).

You need to ask yourself if the motivation behind your prayer is pure and good. People pray to God as if God is a spiritual genie. We pray because we want something good to happen not just for ourselves, but for other people as well.

Point no. 6: Actively pray with action

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8).

We need to pray to God and couple it with ACTION. God expects us to do our part. We cannot pray to God to pass an exam, while we do not study. As the saying goes, “just do your best and God will do the rest.

Point no. 7: Pray with thanksgiving

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6).

We need to approach God not just because we need something, but we must approach His throne with THANKSGIVING. Before we ask God anything, we need to praise His name and be thankful for everything that we receive. God is so gracious towards us that He even gave things that we haven’t asked. To be honest, we have more things to be thankful for than what we should be asking from God.

Point no. 8: Pray fervently

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16).

Sometimes, God wants to see how bad we want something. He wants us to pray with fervent desire. If He sees we have the right attitude and the perseverance, God will grant our requests.

Conclusion

Prayer is powerful. Prayer is among the highest privileges and honors that God has bestowed to us. If it is through reading God’s word we listen to Him, it is through prayer that we talk to Him. Imagine talking to the supreme, almighty, and all powerful Creator of this vast universe; all we can do is to be just in awe. So pray often and let’s not forget these eight points for God to hear our prayer.
